HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-01-1983 2. 26 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 1, 1983 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session September 1, 1983 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Webb presided with Mr. Cordell present. Mr. 4 Meredith was on vacation. The following business was had, to-wit : 5 6 APPROVAL OF. MINUTES OF AUGUST 25, 1983 7 111 8 Mr. Cordell moved the minutes of August 25, 1983 be .approved as received and 9 placed on file, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion 10 was carried. 11 12 DIABETES WALK, RUN, JOG, BIKE-A-THON - Donna Ballinger 13 14 Ms. Donna Ballinger, 237 Woodlawn Avenue, representing the American Diabetes 15 Association, requested approval of the .same route as last year and placing of 16 a banner at West Main and 1st Streets. She has talked with Capt.. Dan Wogoman 17 and Lt. Ron Williams of the Traffic Division and is meeting with the state for 18 approval this morning. The event will be on Sunday, October 2 and she. re- 19 quests the banner be placed on September 12.and removed October 3. Lt. 20 Williams stated the route is as safe as they can have as far as traffic. goes. 21 It was noted this board only approves the route in the city as the rest of the 22 route in under county jurisdiction. 23 24 Mr. Cordell moved that the Walk, Run, Jog, .Bike-a-Thon and placing of the , . 25 banner over Main Street at 1st be approved. This is with the understanding. 26 that there is approval from the State_ Highway. Mr. Webb seconded and on 27 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 28 29 POLICE RESIGNATION - Chief Chris 30 31 Police Chief Charles Chris presented a copy of a .letter of resignation from 32 Patrolman Marc A. McDugle, effective September 5, 1983. His resignation is 33 due to his attendance at the Indiana State Police Academy.. The Chief recom- 34 mended acceptance of Officer McDugle's resignation. 35 36 Mr. Cordell moved to accept the resignation, seconded by Mr. Webb and on 37 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 38 . 39 SET BID DATE FOR SALE OF LAND BETWEEN 8TH & 10TH ON NORTH "G" - Ron Cheek 40 41 Mr. Ron Cheek, representing the Department of Community Development, pursuant.. 42 to the board hearing of August 11, 1983., which recommended the sale of property 43 on "G" Street between 8th & 10th, granted a request, from Mayor Cliff Dickman 44 to sell this land. Mr. Cheek recommended opening the .bids at. 9:00 a.m., on 45 September 29. At that time they will be read and., if acceptable to the board, 46 will be sold. If not acceptable, bids will be received on a day to day basis 47 for up to 28 days. The sale is for four (4) separate parcels of land. 48 49 Mr. Cordell moved that the beginning date for the bid sale of land between 8th 50 and 10th on-North "G" Street be on September 29, 1983 at 9:00 a.m. At this 51 time the board may accept the bids or the bids could .go as far as October' 27, 52 1983 at' 9:00 a.m. at that time the bidding will be closed, seconded by Mr. 53 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 54 . 55 CURB CUT REQUEST - FARM BUREAU, 1435 N. W. 5TH - Steve Esarey 56 111 57 Acting City Engineer Steve Esarey presented a driveway petition from Wayne 58 County Farm Bureau Coop, 1435 N. W. 5th. They the:proposing to add a new 59 entrance to their property with a 25' radius curb and are going to have 60 two (2) 16' gates with a 6' high fence. This request has approval of Traffic, 61 Planning and Engineering Departments. 62 63 Mr. Cordell moved approval of the curb cut request of Farm Bureau at 1435 64 N. W. 5th as outlined on the plan, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous 65 voice vote the motion was carried. Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. September 1, 1983 Page 2 1 BUREAU OF BUILDINGS MONTHLY REPORT 2 3 Building Commissioner Charles Roberts presented his report for August. 4 This included permits for 60 apartments across from Cambridge Square by 5 Cardinal Industries, OIC, Miller Cafeteria and a boiler at Test School. 6 The number of inspections includes weed inspections. 7 8 Mr. Cordell moved to accept the Bureau of Buildings report and place it 9 on file with the Clerk, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote 10 the motion was carried. 11 12 NUISANCE HEARINGS 13 14 The Clerk read the following letter: 15 16 Please be advised that I respectfully request a continuance of the 17 public hearings (which are captioned below) to the September 8, 1983 18 meeting of the Board. 19 20 1) 418 Northwest 7th Street 21 Owner - Betty Winn 22 23 2) 1116 South 7th Street 24 Owner' - Margaret Whitehead 25 26 Both parties have been notified of my request for continuance. 27 28 I further request that the complaint at 1120 South 7th Street be dist:' 29 missed since the inoperable vehicle has been removed. 30 31 Respectfully submitted, 32 33 /s/ John D.
