HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-14-1983 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JULY 14, 1983 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session July 14, 1983 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building 3 in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Cordell and Mr. Webb present. The 4 following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JULY 7, 1983 7 III8 Mr. Webb moved the minutes of July 7, 1983 be approved and placed on file as 9 prepared, seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 10 carried. 11 12 RECEIVE BIDS FOR POLICE CRUISERS 13 14 City Attorney Ed Anderson examined proof of publication for thirteen (13) police 15 cruisers and found it to be in order. 16 17 Mr. Webb moved that the advertisement for police cruisers be accepted and placed 18 on file, seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 19 carried. 20 21 The following bids were received and recorded: 22 23 Orland Park Dodge & RV, Inc. 24 25 13 1983 Dodge Diplomat Salon 4-dr. Sedans 26 various colors 27 Alternate #1 3 units $ 9,773.00 ea. 28 #2 3 units 10,050.00 ea. 29 #3 4 units 8,998.00 ea. 30 #4 3 units 9,837.00 ea. 31 white units 32 #5 5 units 9,257.00 ea. II33 #6 5 units 8,998.00 ea. 34 #7 1 unit 9,055.00 ea. 35 #8 3 units 9,328.00 ea. 36 #9 1 unit 10,050.00 ea. 37 Ford alternate 1983 Crown Victoria 38 20 available .10,750.00 ea. 39 40 Another alternate bid was received today; however a letter was also delivered 41 noting the Plymouth Grand Furys in this bid were sold out and also they cannot 42 supply alternates #5, #6 and #8 in the above bid; however, they can supply 1983 43 Dodge Diplomats as listed in the second bid for $9,257.00 ea. 44 45 Gene Thompaon Motors Inc. 46 47 13 GL 41 Dodge Diplomats as per specs: $10,750.00 ea. 48 49 Mr. Webb moved that the bids be accepted for evaluation and recommendation, 50 seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 51 52 MORTGAGE RELEASE FOR 324 SOUTH 3RD STREET - Ron Cheek 53 54 Mr. Ron Cheek, representing the Department of Community Development, requested 55 execution of satisfaction of mortgage at 324 South 3rd Street. This is part of 56 the replacement housing program for which a five (5) year mortgage was taken 57 with no payments to be made. The time period expired as of July 7, thus, the III58 request for the execution of this mortgage. City Attorney Ed Anderson finds it 59 in order. 60 61 Mr. Cordell moved to release the mortgage of property at 324 South 3rd Street, 62 Richmond, Indiana, County of Wayne, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice 63 vote the motion was carried. /2- Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. July 14, 1983 Page 2 POLICE DEPARTMENT RETIREMENT - Chief Chris 1 Chief of Police Charles Chris presented a copy of a letter of retirement from 2 Sgt. John M. Ross and recommended acceptance of his retirement as he has ex- 3 ceeded the minimum 20 years service requirement. Sgt. Ross served the City 4 for twenty years, four months and twelve days. The Chief recommended Sgt. 5 Ross be placed on the retired roll as of July 20, 1983. 6 7 Chief Chris noted Sgt. Ross has been an outstanding officer and his retire- 8 ment will be a loss to the department. Sgt. Ross stated he has enjoyed his 9 twenty (20) years and will be working at the Wayne County Jail. 10 11 Mr. Webb moved that the retirement of Sgt. Ross effective July 20, 1983 be 12 approved, seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 13 carried. 14 15 Board members commended Sgt.. Ross for a job well done and his service to the 16 community. The Chief presented Sgt. Ross a certificate of retirement. 17 18 DRIVEWAY PETITION FOR 635 SOUTH "E" - Steve Esarey 19 20 Acting City Engineer Steve Esarey presented a driveway petition from Mr. Roy 21 Ridge, 635 South "E". The request has approval of Traffic, Engineering and 22 Plan Departments. The request is off South 6th Street and is for a parking 23 lot behind the house on the southwest corner of 6th & "E". 24 25 Mr. Webb moved that the subject driveway petition be approved, seconded by 26 Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 27 28 REQUEST TO PUT STEP ON CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY FROM GENERAL TELEPHONE - Steve Esarey 29 30 Mr. Esarey presented a request from General Telephone to put a step on the 31 sidewalk on North "A" Street to build another entrance into their building 32 for security measures. The step will extend out approximately one foot (1') 33 and there will be railings on each side. The request has approval of Traffic, 34 Engineering and Plan Departments. 35 36 Mr. Webb moved that the request from General Telephone for a step on the side- 37 walk on North "A" Street be approved as presented, seconded by Mr. Cordell 38 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 39 40 CURB CUT REQUEST FROM D&J MOBILE HOMES SALES - Steve Esarey 41 42 Mr. Esarey presented a curb 'cut request from D&J Mobile Home Sales, located 43 on the corner of Williamsburg Pike and Industries Road. The request is off 44 Williamsburg Pike and has recommendation of denial from Traffic, Engineering 45 and Plan Departments. The Departments feel it would present a safety hazard 46 on Williamsburg Pike. 47 48 Mr. Webb moved for denial of the subject driveway petition from D&J Trailer 49 Sales on Williamsburg Pike, seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice 50 vote the motion was carried. 51 52 ADJOURNMENT 53 54 There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. 55 56 • Donald E.
