CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, DECEMBER 30, 1982
1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met
2 in regular session December 30, 1982 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal
3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Webb present. Mr.
4 Cordell was on vacation. The following business was had, to-wit:

6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 23, 1982

8 Mr. Webb moved the minutes of December 23, 1982 be approved and placed on
9 file as prepared, seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the
10 motion was carried.

12 POLICE DEPARTMENT HIRINGS - Chief Chris
13
14 Chief of Police Charles Chris recommended for hiring the following applicants
15 for the positions of Probationary Police Officers with the Richmond Police
16 Department effective January 3, 1983.

18 Mark A. Connery, Age: 25, 639 N. W. L Street, Richmond, Ind.
19 Peggy J. Jinks, Age: 34, 27 Elmhurst Drive, Richmond, Ind.
20 Donald G. Stephen, Age: 28, 2759 South E St. , Richmond, Ind.
21 Virgil M. Shaw, Age: 25, 506 Willow Grove Rd. , Centerville, Ind.

23 These applicants have successfully completed written examinations, background
24 investigation, physical qualifications, have been accepted by the Police
25 Pension Board and approved by the Police Merit Commission.

27 The Chief noted beginning in 1979 a residency requirement was placed by the
28 Police Merit Commission which is being a bonafide resident of Wayne Township
29 thirty (30) days after hiring and Mr. Shaw is aware of the requirement.

31 Mr. Webb moved that the recommendation of Chief Chris be approved as presented,
III 32 seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.

34 REPORT ON DEMOLITION AT NORTH 8TH AND "B" - Charles Roberts

36 Building Commissioner Charles Roberts reported he checked the demolition of
37 the property located at North 8th and "B" yesterday and it is down to the
38 foundation. He noted they had done a good job so far as they have been working
39 with lack of equipment due to salvage work. He recommended letting them
40 proceed for another couple of months for cleaning up and hauling away. Mr.
41 Roberts noted he will request the basement be crushed, the sewer plugged and
42 staked for identification. Mr. Roberts will report back to the Board if work
43 is stopped on this project.

45 JUNK VEHICLE HEARINGS - 30 Elks Road and 906 North "I"

47 City Attorney Ed Anderson conducted the hearings.

49 30 Elks Road - Reo Sparks

51 The Defendant was not present. Complaintant Bob Goodwin presented a copy of
52 the complaint and photographs. He noted the one (1) vehicle has been placed
53 in a garage and the other has been licensed and repaired. He noted they are
54 no longer in violation so requested the charges be dropped.

56 Mr. Merdith so moved, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the
III 57 motion was carried.

59 906 North "I" - Oran Wilson

61 The Defendant was not present. Complaintant Bob Goodwin presented a copy of the
62 complaint and photographs. He noted one (1) vehicle has been removed and one
63 has been licensed and is operable; however, there is presently another vehicle
64 there which is inoperable. He requested the charges be dropped.
