HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-07-1982 /ore BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 7, 1982 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session October 7, 1982 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Webb presided with Mr. Cordell present. Mr. Meredith 4 was out of town. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER. 30, 1982 7 8 Mr. Cordell moved to approve the minutes as prepared, seconded by Mr. Webb and 9 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 10 11 REQUEST TO REMOVE STREET LIGHT IN CLEAR. CREEK PARK - Don McBride 12 13 Park Superintendent Don McBride stated that a street light located at the middle 14 drive and toward the swimming pool has trees surrounding it which obscure the light 15 and it is unneeded. He requested permission to remove the light. Mr. Webb sug- 16 gested that there will be another request before the Board next week and deferred 17 this request until then. 18 19 REQUEST FOR REMOVAL OF PARKING SPACES - Capt. Wogoman 20 21 Capt. Wogoman read the following request to the Board: 22 23 Recent alignment of traffic lanes at various locations in conjunction 24 with the City's Signal Modernization Project has mandated removal of 25 a certain amount of parking at the following intersections, to provide 26 for the safe movement of traffic: 27 28 Northwest 5th & "L" Street --- 75 feet from mast arm, 29 East on "L" Street, 30 Southeast corner. 31 32 2nd & Richmond Avenue --- Southwest corner, 75 ft. III 33 from crosswalk, on Rich- 34 mond Avenue. 35 36 South 13th & "E" Street --- 60 ft. from crosswalk on 37 both sides of street, on 38 13th South of "E" Street. 39 40 60 ft. from crosswalk on 41 both sides of street, on 42 13th North of "E" Street. 43 44 Capt. Wogoman said all these intersections are about one-half the distance 45 suggested by the engineers. We are removing four (4) residential parking spaces 46 either way which is a must to make it function, and we will just have to try to 47 live with it. Mr. Webb noted this has been an important improvement to the flow 48 of traffic at South 13th & "E". 49 50 Mr. Cordell moved to remove parking as requested by Capt. Wogoman, seconded by 51 Mr: Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 52 53 SET BID DATE for STORAGE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES 54 55 Mr. Webb set November 4, 1982 at 9:00 a.m. in the Board of Works room for the 56 bid date for storage of abandoned vehicles. 111 57 58 BUREAU OF BUILDINGS MONTHLY REPORT 59 60 Charles Roberts, Bureau of Buildings Commissioner, submitted his report for 61 September, 1982. 62 63 Mr. Cordell moved to accept the monthly report as presented, seconded by Mr. Webb 64 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. l0 � Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. October 7, 1982 Page 2 1 RADIO MAINTENANCE_•MONTHLY_`REPOR T 2 3 The Board received the radio maintenance report for September, 1982. 4 5 Mr. Cordell moved to accept the report as presented, seconded by Mr. Webb and 6 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 7 8 GENERAL REMARKS 9 10 Director of Transportation Jerry Haynes stated that the transfer of the City 11 operation of the vehicle storage operation to that of private enterprise will 12 result in a dollar savings to the City, both in staffing and bookkeeping. 13 Specifications and bid forms can be obtained from the Clerk's office. 14 15 City Engineer George Webb stated that the C&O railroad is contemplating the 16 reconstruction of the South "L" Street crossing starting October 18th.
