Meeting Minutes
February 6, 2020

Guests : Michael Gradone ( Brewster Recreation Dept . ), Patrick Ellis ( Brewster Department of Public
Works ), Denise Rego ( Brewster Council on Aging ), Stephan Tupper ( Cape Cod Commission ) and Robert
Tobias (citizen ) .
Meeting was called to order at S : OOPM .
® Minutes of the January 16, 2019 meeting were unanimously approved .
® The Committee continued the discussion regarding the Bike Day Event planned for Saturday,
May 15 . The program will be held from 24 PM . Eric Levy made the motion to hold the entire
event at the Eddy School as access to the Stony Brook School is more complicated . Motion was
approved unanimously .
® Denise Rego, from the Brewster Council on Aging, spoke with some senior bicyclists and they
came up with a list of suggestions they thought would be helpful for cyclists . The list includes
basic safety equipment as well as suggestions for emergency contact information . She said they
will list the Bike Day in the COA newsletter.
® Stephen Tupper, from the Cape Cod Commission, also had some additional recommendations
for the Bikeways Committee relating to the Bike Day Event. He suggested putting signs on the
CC Rail Trail directing people to the Eddy School as well as publishing a press release to help
advertise the event . He also indicated they would be willing to supply handouts, maps and
some give-a -ways . Stephen also said they can supply a CC Transit Bus and driver to show people
how to mount a bike on the bus .
® George Bausch said Dan Poitrus, a local bike shop owner, will have a mechanic on hand to assist
riders with simple repairs or adjustments on their bikes . He will also ask the Brewster Fire
Department about using their lighted sign to promote the Bike Day Event .
® Further discussion was held regarding getting on the Town Website as well as the Recreation
Department Website .

® Patrick Ellis, from the Brewster Department of Public Works, says they have some folding signs
we could use if needed .
® Rick Scannevin will ask the Friends of the CC Rail Trail if they would like to set up a table and
distribute maps and talk up the trail through Brewster. j
® Joe Sullivan passed around a map the Provincetown Bikeways Committee provides tourists to
promote cycling in Ptown . We may consider a similar type map for Brewster.
® The Brewster Selectboard has approved 7 locations for water bubblers in Town . Some spots
are : Rail Trail at 137, the Egg, Drummer Boy, Crosby Beach, Freeman' s Fields and the rear of the
Town Hall . Mary Chaffee is looking for funding .
® Joe will email the Committee an updated list of rides passing through Brewster in 2020,
® Pat Ellis gave a summary of road projects that are coming up . This includes paving Rt . 137 from
6A to Rt . 124 with bike lane and sidewalk similar to Underpass Rd . This is expected to start in
Fall 2020. The next project after that will be the Millstone Rd . repaving along with the sidewalks
and bike lane . They hope to use angled curbing instead of the perpendicular granite curbing
that is along Rt . 6A. He also said the DPW can paint sharrows on the roads to better inform

drivers that the road is shared with cyclists . The Committee asked him if he could look into
shrinking the driving lanes a little after Satucket Rd . is repaved and relined .
® Safe Roads to Schools was brought up . It turns out that funding is time consuming and by the
time we may get the money the standards usually have changed .
® We plan to invite our local Representatives to a meeting to talk about funding for a bridge that
would cross Rt . 6A and allow cyclists and pedestrians safe access to Crosby Landing Beach .
® Pat said the DPW will flail mow along the CC Rail Trail . Other surrounding Towns already mow .
Jack Clark will let the Bikeways Committee take over control of the Facebook page .
