Meeting was called to order at S : OOPM .
® Minutes of the December 19, 2019 meeting were approved .
® Michael Gradone reported that we will be permitted to use the Stony Brook School parking lot
for the Brewster Bike Day event on Saturday, May 16'" . If the weather is an issue the event will
be moved to the Eddy School Gym . Signs will be posted redirecting people to the Eddy School .
® It was decided that we would send out emails and also post flyers in the schools to call attention
to the Bike Day activities . It was also suggested we send out a "save the date" notice to the
public .
® We reviewed the format for the event which will be similar to last years . We also talked about
getting local bike shops involved . We will continue to work on preparing for the day .
® Joe Sullivan will get in touch with the IT people for the Town about getting Bikeways
items/agenda on the Town 's website .
® Greg Wright will contact Kathy Lambert about developing a new Bikeways Facebook Page .
® George Bausch said the Police Department is planning to work with J1 students again this year in
regards to bike safety. The Bikeways Committee would like to get involved .
® George also mentioned they have about a dozen "share the road" signs that could be used . He
will be attending the Safety Committee meeting and will discuss the locations, probably some
on Town Landing Roads .
® We plan to invite Pat Ellis, Head of the DPW, to our next meeting . We have a few things to
discuss, such as the possibility of having "sharrows" painted on some of the preferred cycling
roads . Those are used to indicate to drivers that the road is also used by cyclists . We also would
like to talk about the lane striping on Satucket Road after it is repaved to see if we could get a
little more elbow room for people on bikes, and pedestrians.
® Rick Scannevin contacted the Accounting Department for the Town to see what if any funds
were available . We have $ 4285 . 28 leftover from money that was appropriated at Town
Meeting in 2015 . The original amount was $5000 . 00. It can only be used for maps and
brochures .
® Joe will send the Committee members a list of the bike rides that are expected to pass through
Brewster this year. At a future meeting we will decide which rides we would like to get involved
with .
® Greg and Hal will continue to work on the map of the routes in Brewster that Greg presented at
the last meeting .
Eric Levy, who also represents Mass DCR, said the CC Rail Trail through Town needs some
attention . The brush on the edges of the trail needs to be cut back . He mentioned that both
Harwich and Orleans DPW departments help to clear the brush by flail mowing. Ideally it should
be cleared about 3 -6' on each side . He made a motion to ask if the Brewster DPW could do the
same . Motion passed unanimously.
