HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-11-1982 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FEBRUARY 11, 1982 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session February 11, 1982 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Cordell and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 11, 1982 7 8 Mr. Webb moved the minutes of the previous meeting be approved and placed on 9 file as prepared, seconded by Mr. Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the 11/ 10 motion was carried. - 11 12 FIRE DEPARTMENT RETIREMENTS 13 14 Fire Chief Paul Mullin recommended the requests from Battalion Chief Tom 15 Barker and Lt. Jan Vogelsong Sr. for retirement and placement on the pension 16 rolls effective February 11, 1982 be approved. 17 18 Chief Mullin read the following letter: 19 20 February 8, 1982 21 22 Board of Public Works 23 City of Richmond 24 Richmond, Indiana 47374 •25 26 Gentlemen: 27 28 I would like to take this opportunity to express my 29 appreciation to you, the._representatives of the City of 30 Richmond, for allowing me to work in a job for the last 31 twenty-two years that has given me both pleasure and self- 32 satisfaction. The Richmond Fire Department is very close 11/ 33 to my heart, and that of my family, so leaving is not. some- 34 thing that is done with ease. The decision was made after 35 much careful consideration and thought. However, I feel 36 that, at the present time, I must look forward to new 37 opportunities and challenges. 38 - 39 I would, especially, like to thank Chief Paul Mullin, 40 .former Chief Bill Berry, and all the men of "A" Platoon 41 for all the cooperation and assistance that they gave dur- 42 ing the nearly eleven years that I served as Battalion 43 Chief of the department. 44 45 Also, I would like to thank Mayor Dickman, the former 46 . mayors that I served with, and last but not least, Don 47 McBride, who helped and encouraged me to become a city 48 firefighter many years ago. 49 50 Sincerely, 51 52 /s/ Tom J. Barker 53 54 .Mr. Webb moved that these requests for retirement be approved, seconded by Mr. 55 Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 56 57 FIRE DEPARTMENT HIRINGS 58 59 Chief Mullin recommended the appointments of Mr. Vincent DeVito and Mr. Ed 60 Haller as .probationary firefighters effective February 11, 1982. 61 62 Mr. Webb moved that the subject appointments be approved, seconded by Mr. 63 Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Joe Perkins to the rank 4 of Battalion Chief effective-February 11, 1982. 5 6 Mr. Webb moved that the subject promotion be approved, seconded by Mr. 7 Cordell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 9 ADJOURNMENT - 10 11 There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. 12 13 Donald E.
