HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-12-16cMay 12, 2016 A Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret Regular Meeting was called to order by Mayor Daniel J. Reiman at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, May 12, 2016, Council Chambers, Memorial Municipal Building, 61 Cooke Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey. Upon individual roll call the following were noted present: Council President Vincent Bellino Councilmember Jorge Diaz Dennis DiMascio Ajmarlohal " Randy Krum Noted absent was Councilwoman Susan Naples. Also noted present was Municipal Clerk Kathleen M. Barney, MIMIC and Borough Attorney Robert J. Bergen. The Meeting was opened with a Minute of Silent Prayer and The Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Reiman. Roll Call Noted Absent Also Noted Present Meeting Opened - Silent Prayer /Pledge of Allegiance The Clerk stated that the 2016 Annual Notice was mailed to The Home News Tribune, The Star Ledger and posted on the Bulletin Board on Statement of Meeting January 4, 2016. Notice was published in The Home News Tribune on Notice January 5, 2016 and The Star Ledger on January 6, 2016. PUBLIC PORTIONS ON RESOLUTIONS /AGENDA ITEMS AND - NEW Resolutions /Agenda Items BUSINESS — Upon MMS &C by Councilmembers Diaz and Krum and unanimous Open to Public affirmative vote of the five (5) members present, the Public Portion on Resolution /Agenda Items and New Business was opened to the public. There were no comments from the public. Upon individual roll call vote, Councilmembers Bellino, Adopted Diaz, DiMascio, Johal and Krum voted in the affirmative. Councilmember Naples was noted absent. BILL LIST — Upon MMS &C by Councilmembers Diaz and Krum, all bills appearing on the prepared list, properly audited and signed were ordered to be paid. Upon individual roll call vote, Councilmembers Bellino, Diaz, DiMascio, Johal and Krum voted in the affirmative. Councilmember Naples was noted absent. REPORTS /COMMITTEES — BUILDINGS & GROUNDS — Committee Chairperson Johal reported that he will be going through the town and the Waterfront with Tony and hoping to have Progress soon. FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION - Committee Chairperson Diaz reported Progress. FIRE & DOMESTIC PREPAREDNESS — Committee Chairperson Krum reported Progress. PARKS, RECREATION & PUBLIC PROPERTY — Committee Chairperson Bellino reported progress. POLICE — In the absence of Committee Chairperson Naples, Mayor Reiman reported Progress. PUBLIC WORKS— Committee Chairperson DiMascio reported Progress. BOARD OF EDUCATION —In the absence of LIASION Committee Chairperson Naples, Mayor Reiman reported Progress. Bill List Reports /Committees 3 May 12, 2016 PROCLAMATION "Click It or Ticket" 4 Mayor Reiman said he had a Proclamation for "Click It or Ticket' which is the week of May 23rd to June 5 1 h, 2016. PROCLAMATION "Click It or Ticket" WHEREAS, there were 560 motor vehicle fatalities in New Jersey in 2015; and WHEREAS, a large percentage of the motor vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were not wearing a seat belt; and WHEREAS, use of a seat belt remains the most effective way to avoid death or serious injury in a motor vehicle crash; and WHEREAS, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 135,000 lives were saved by safety belt usage nationally between 1975 -2000; and WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey will participate in the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" seat belt mobilization from May 23 — June 5, 2016 in an effort to raise awareness and increase seat belt usage through a combination of high visibility enforcement and public education; and WHEREAS, the Division of Highway Traffic Safety has set a goal of increasing the seat belt usage rate in the state from the current level of 91% to 93 %; and WHEREAS, a further increase in seat belt usage in New Jersey will save lives on our roadways; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor & Council of the Borough of Carteret declares their support for the "Click It or Ticket" seat belt mobilization both locally and nationally from May 23 —June 5, 2016 and pledges to increase awareness of the mobilization and the benefits of seat belt use.
