HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-15-1981 /77 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 15, 1981 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session October 15, 1981 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Webb presided with Mr. Ryder present. Absent: Mr. 4 Meredith. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF OCTOBER 8, 1981 7 8 Mr. Ryder moved to approve the minutes of October 8, 1981, seconded by Mr. 9 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 10 11 DECLARATORY RESOLUTION TO VACATE ALLEY BETWEEN SOUTH 4th & 5th AND BETWEEN 12 "D" & "E" 13 14 Mr. Ryder moved, as is policy with vacation of public right-of-way, that the 15 resolution be referred to the City Plan Commission, seconded by Mr. Webb and 16 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 17 • 18 PERMISSION TO PLACE FLAGS AROUND FREEDOM FOUNTAIN BY .AMERICAN LEGION - 19 Phil Lotich 20 21 Mr. Lotich requested permission to place four (4) flagpoles on the outside 22 edge of the concrete perimeter of the walkway around the Freedom Fountain 23 at the Municipal Building to fly flags of deceased veterans. He stated he 24 has been approached by families of deceased veterans wanting to donate flags . 25 back to the veteran's organizations. This will be done at no expense to the 26 City. He thinks the present lighting will be sufficient to illuminate the 27 flags. They will keep a log book showing whose flag..is flown. He stated 28 the bases for the poles will be flush with the ground so mowing will not be 29 a problem. The first ,flags will be flown on November 11, 1981, with the 30 four (4) major veteran's organizations picking their first flag. The Veteran's 31 Council will watch for deteriorated flags and will replace these with new 32 ones. If they should run out of flags, the Veteran's Council will furnish III 33 new flags. 34 35 Mr. Ryder moved to permit theplacement of four (4) American flags around the 36 Freedom Fountain by the Veteran's Council for the purpose of honoring our 37 past and future veterans, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote 38 the motion was carried. 39 40 SET DATES FOR TWO (2) NUISANCE HEARINGS 41 42 Mr. Webb set November 12 , 1981 at 10:00 a.m. to hear nuisance complaints on 43 properties located at 402 South llth and 430 South llth. 44 45 REQUEST TO HOLD VFW PARADE - Jimmy Johnson 46 47 Jimmy Johnson, 736 South 5th Street, representing the Veterans of Foreign 48 Wars, Post 1108 located at 231 South 8th, requested a parade on May 1, 1982 49 at 1:30 p.m. on North "A" street with disbandment at 10th. Chief Chris re- 50 quested Mr. Johnson get the details to Capt. Dan Wogoman and get state 51 highway approval. He noted traffic should be no problem. 52 53 Mr. Ryder moved to approve the Veteran's of Foreign Wars parade for May 1, 1982 54 at 1:30 p.m. subject to State Highway and local Traffic Department approval, 55 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried: 56 III 57 ADJOURNMENT 58 59 There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. 60 61 George Webb 62 Acting President 63 64 ATTEST: JoEllen Trimble 65 Clerk of the Board
