HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-24-1980 7( • BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JANUARY 24, 1980 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in 2 regular session January 24, 1980 at the hour of 9:00a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. 4 Webb present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as pre- "' 7 pared, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 9 Director of Community Development appeared with another step in the process of 10 trying to get the southern extension of Industrial Parkway built. He present- 11 ed a dedication with a legal description of sixty (60) feet of right of way 12 from the existing-road to Hodgin Road. This would abuttthe section line. 13 This dedication is needed prior to HUD finalizing their approval to spend 14 money for the construction of the extension. He anticipates Eastern Indiana 15 Industrial Park also signing this dedication, as they are the owners of the 16 entire ground to be dedicated. He requested the Board accept this subject to 17 EIIP signing their part of the dedication. Mr. Anderson stated he had exam- 18 fined the dedication and finds it to be in order. This is all subject to an 19 actual road being built. 20 21 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the dedication subject to the conditions as 22 recited, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 23 carried. 24 25 Chief of Police Charles Chris requested Officer Joseph Klein be permitted 26 to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy January 28 through February 27 1 for "Death Investigation". 28 29 Chief of Police Charles Chris requested approval of the following attendance 30 at schools: 31 III 32 January 28 through February 1 , Indiana Law Enforcement Academy 33 Death Investigation - Officer Joseph Klein 34 35 January 28 through January 31 Traffic Engineering Course at 36 Purdue - Sgt. Don Ponder and Officer Tom Bass 37 38 February 4 through February 8, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy 39 Juvenile Drug Enforcement - Officers Tim Tyler and Harold Raven 40 41 Mr. Webb so moved, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the 42 motion was carried. 43 44 Traffic Captain Dan Wogoman requested a STOP sign at the intersection of 45 North West 9th and Richmond Avenue for eastbound traffic. Employees of 46 Johns-Manville are using the alley to the South of their drive to exit onto 47 Richmond Avenue and without the sign it could cause an accident. The alley 48 curves in such a way that it is difficult to see vehicles exiting the alley 49 if you are westbound on Richmond Avenue and making a left-hand turn onto 50 North West 9th Street. 51 52 Mr. Webb moved that the Police Traffic Division be authorized to have the 53 Street Department place a STOP sign at North West 9th and Richmond Avenue 54 for eastbound traffic, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice 55 vote the motion was carried. 56 III 57 Fire Chief Paul Mullin recommended the appointment of Mr. Rick Wright to 58 the department as a probationary firefighter effective January 24, 1980. 59 He noted this gets his department to full strength. 60 61 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the recommendation of the Fire Chief, second- 62 ed by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 63 64 Mr. Meredith read a memo from John D. Bronston concerning the nuisance com- 65 plaint against Donald Ellison, 1516 South 4th Street, which the Board had Board of Works Minutes Cont. January 24; 1980 Page 2 1 ordered removed. "Please be advised that the inoperable vehicle at the above 2 mentioned address has been removed as of January 21, 1980. The owner of the 3 property removed the nuisance at his own expense. Therefore, I would recommend 4 the complaint be dropped." 5 6 Mr. Webb so moved, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the 7 motion was carried. 8 9 Mr. Webb moved the report of the Radio Technician for December be accepted 10 add placed on file, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the 11 motion was carried. 12 13 Donald E.
