BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE .
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, NOVEMBER 29, 1979
1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in
2 regular session November 29, 1979 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal
3 Building of said City. W. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb
4 present. The following business was had, to-wit:

6 Mr. Webb moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared,
7 seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.

9 Mr. Meredith stated the request to make South 17th Street one-way southbound
10 was taken under advisement at a previous meeting. Mr. Anderson moved that
11 South 17th Street be denied a one-way request, seconded by W. Webb. Mr. Webb
12 stated that traffic-wise it would be desirable to make it one-way south; but,
13 due to the intersection.at South "A" and two (2) businesses, the public
14 welfare would be served better by keeping it two-way. Chief Charles Chris
15 stated this investigation was done in response to a request. The petition
16 of citizens in voicing their feelings has been a credit to the neighborhood
17 and the City. People are free to come before the Board and he expressed
18 appreciation to the response that was made in bringing information forward in
19 response to the investigation they were requested to make. On unanimous voice
20 vote the motion was carried.

22 Mr. Webb presented a recommendation from the Street Light Committee to install
23 9 - 175 watt post top street lights on Heathfield Lane, Chelsea Way and Kensing-
24 ton Drive in the Meadowpark Subdivision. This will increase the City billing
25 $51.21 per month. Mr. Webb moved for approval of the 9 - 175 watt post top street
26 lights in the Meadowpark Subdivision, seconded by W. Anderson and on unanimous
27 voice vote the motion was carried.

29 W. Webb presented a recommendation from the Street Light Committee to install
30 1 - 250 watt street light in the alley at the rear of 608 Peacock Road. Mr.
31 Webb stated historically the Board has not approved lights in alleys except
32 in extremely bad situations where areas of high intensity traffic. He checked
III 33 and did not see any reason this area warranted a light more than any other
34 alley. Mr. Anderson moved the request be denied, seconded by Mr. Webb and
35 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Anderson suggested the Street
36 Light Committee should give reason why this light is justified.

38 Mr. Webb presented a residential driveway petition from Mr. Gesue Christofaro, 100
39 S. W. 5th Street, to improve his driveway by widening it nine feet (9') off of
40 S. W. '"A" Street. Plan, Traffic and Engineering Departments recommend approval.
41 Mr. Webb moved the subject request be approved, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on
42 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.

44 Chief Charles Chris requested a bid date be set to receive bids for police vehicles.
45 He presented specs for 11 police cruisers, 5 standard production cars for adminis-
46 trative and special duty allowing for a smaller car with a smaller engine and 1
47 pick-up truck for the dog warden. Mr. Meredith set December 27 at 9:00 a.m. to
48 receive bids on the police cars.

50 Mr. Anderson moved the monthly report of the Department of Weights and Measures
51 for October, 1979 be accepted, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote
52 the motion was carried.

54 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed the
55 meeting was adjourned.
