HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-07-1979 7 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JUNE 7, 1979 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session June 7, 1979 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building of 3 said City. Mr. Anderson presided with Mr. Webb present. Mr. Meredith was on 4 vacation. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, 7 seconded by Mr. Webb. Motion carried. 8 9 Ms Darlene Fleenor, representing the March of Dimes, requested permission to 10 block South "H" Street from 9th Street to the. alley June 9 from 9: 00 a.m. to 11 5:00 p.m. to hold a car wash for that organization. Capt. Loper noted no problems 12 had occurred last year when this was done. Mr. Webb moved for approval of the 13 request for the March of Dimes to have a car wash next Saturday between the 14 hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and closing the street at South 9th and "H" 15 to the alley east on "H", seconded by Mr. Anderson. Motion carried. 16 17 Mr. Anderson set a date of June 21, 1979 at 9:00 a.m. to receive bids for material 18 and for gasoline and diesel fuel for the Transportation Department. The 19 existing contract expires June 30. 20 21 Mr. Al Cook, Reid Memorial Hospital, appeared for the Health Fair National 22 Road Run requesting traffic control for fifteen (15) minutes at North 10th and 23 "A". Mr. Cook presented a map of the route to be used and Capt. Loper stated he 24 would provide officers at aignalize.d intersections on North "E" also. Mr. Cook 25 stated he would coordinate with Capt. Loper for protection at critical 26 intersections. Mr. Anderson moved to approve the National Road Run as sponsored 27 by the Wayne County Health Fair subject to assistance from the Police Department 28 and Capt. Loper, seconded by Mr. Webb. Motion carried. 29 30 Ms Nancy Campbell and Mr. Chuck McCracken, representing the Y.M.C.A. , appeared 31 for the fifth Rose City Quarter Marathon. Mr. McCracken stated he has received 32 permission from the Wayne County Commissioners and the State of Indiana. He 33 requested police assistance for fifteen (15) minutes at two (2) intersections, III34 South 5th & "G" and South 4th and "A" on Saturday, June 23, starting at 6: 30 p.m. 35 This event is held in conjunction with the Rose Festival and last year had 200 36 runners. Mr. Anderson moved to authorize the Rose City Quarter Marathon on June 37 23 for police assistance at intersections and streets as designated, seconded by 38 Mr. Webb.. Motion carried. 39 40 Mr. Webb presented a curb cut request for a residential driveway at 2801 41 Southeast Parkway. The petitioner is. Joe Barker and the request has approval of 42 Plan, Traffic and Engineering Departments. Mr. Webb moved approval for this 43 driveway be granted, seconded by Mr. Anderson. Motion carried. 44 45 A letter was read by Capt. Loper from Richard Shoemaker, 336 S.W. 4th Street, 46 requesting the closing of S .W. 4th Street from S.W. "C" to S.W. "D" on June 47 15th from 6: 00 p.m. until 10: 00 p.m. for a block party. Mr.Webb moved the request 48 be granted for a block party in the 300 block of S.W. 4th Street, seconded by 49 Mr. Anderson. Motion carried. 50 51 Chief of Police Charles Chris stated he has received a request from Mr. Kenneth 52 Christmon, Director of Security of Earlham College, requesting Thurlow Harter be 53 appointed a Special Police Officer for Earlham Campus Police. The Chief requested 54 special police powers be granted to Mr. Harter with duties and powers limited 55 to the grounds of Earlham College with assignment by Earlham effective today. Mr. 56 Webb moved the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Anderson. Motion carried. 57 58 Mr.. Anderson moved the report of the Building Commissioner for May, 1979, be 59 accepted and filed, seconded by Mr. Webb. Motion carried. 60 61 Regarding a nuisance complaint against Harold E. Mullin, Mr. Anderson stated Mr. 62 Mullin had been ordered to abate a nuisance at 1644 South 4th and the thirty day 63 period has passed. Such order has not been complied with but the Attorney for 64 the Defendant requests that the Board stay execution of the order until next week. 65 Mr. Webb moved to stay for one (1) week, seconded by Mr. Anderson.
