HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-17-1979 • BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, May 17, 1979 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session May 17, 1979 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building of said City. Mr. Anderson presided with Mr. Webb present. Mr. 4 Meredith was out of town on City business. 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, 7 seconded by Mr. Webb and the motion was carried. 8 III 9 Mr. Anderson examined proof of publication for bids on Community Development's 10 project to reconstruct - N.W. "J" Street between Hunt and N.W. 5th Street 11 and moved it be accepted and filed, seconded by Mr. Webb and the motion was 12 carried. 13 14 The following bids were recieved and recorded: 15 16 1. Bertrand Construction Company $30,889. 10 17 2. Edward E. Smarrelli. $43,078. 34 18 3. John E. Rigsby Excavating $38,179.05 19 4. A & D Excavating $40,443.93 20 21 Mr. Anderson moved that the above bids be taken under advisement, seconded by 22 Mr. Webb and the motion was carried. 23 24 Ms Ann Cline, Director of the City's Energy Program, (CCEMP)' was present and 25 requested-the Board's authorization to develop a stand-by carpooling plan for 26 the City. They plan to contact the largest employers in the City and have 27 their employees fill out brief forms,;-;and-lists would be made from this. It 28 would then be up to individuals to contact each other to offer or request rides. 29 CCEMP will be assisted in this program.by volunteer workers of RSVP, (Richmond 30 Retired Senior Volunteer Program) , and the City's bus system (CORTA) to lay 31 plans for extending bus service into areas which normally draw large numbers 32 of employees. Mr. Anderson moved that the City endorse the carpooling plan. 33 as developed by CCEMP, seconded by Mr. Webb and the motion was carried. 34 35 Mr. Anderson presented a petition for a driveway and curb cut at 1950 36 Reeveston Road, residence of Mr. Orville R. Webb, who was not present. This 37 request has the- approval of Traffic, Plan and Engineering Departments. Mr. 38 Webb, City Engineer, stated that this was to widen the area to avoid a 39 "dog-leg". Mr. Anderson moved t9. approve the curb cut, seconded by Mr. Webb 40 and the motion was carried. 41 42 The bus shelter bid date was set for June 14th at 10:00 a.m. (Materials for 43 bus shelters) Mr. Matt Nepote stated the above project was subjected to UMPTA 44 approval. A copy of the ad will appear in "Passenger Transportation" on May 45 25th and June 1st and also in the local paper. 46 47 Ms Mary Lou Binnig, 1697 Idiewild_Dr.ive,was present and requested the closing 48 of Idlewild Drive from Mikan Drive to 1754 Idlewild on Memorial Day for a 49 neighborhood block party. Mr. Jerry Haynes, Director of Transportation, stated 50 his department will supply "horses" for blocking off the area. Mr. Anderson 51 moved to approve the closing of two (2) blocks of Idlewild Drive on May 27th 52 for a neighborhood block party, seconded by Mr. Webb and the motion was carried. 53 54 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 55 meeting was adjourned. 56 57 Edward Anderson III 58 Acting President 59 60 ATTEST: Sandra Addleman 61 Acting Clerk of the Board
