HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-04-1979 LR // BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, .JANUARY 4, 1979 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session January 4, 1979 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building of said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as 7 prepared, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 8 carried. 9 III 10 Mr. Meredith announced the election of a President of the Board for the year 11 1979 is in order. Mr. Webb nominated Don Meredith, seconded by Mr. Anderson. 12 Mr. Webb moved the nominations be closed, seconded by Mr. Anderson. On 13 unanimous voice vote, both motions carried. 14 15 Mr. Webb moved Don Meredith be appointed as the Board's representative on the 16 Plan Commission, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the 17 motion was carried. 18 19 Mr. Meredith read a letter from the Indiana State Highway Commission concerning 20 Mr. Byron Schull's request to allow parking on the south side of U.S . 40 in 21 the 1600 block of East Main Street. The request was denied by their office 22 on September 15, 1977. Capt. Scott Loper recommended this request be denied. 23 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the recommendation of the Indiana State Highway 24 Commission letter to deny parking, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice 25 vote, the motion was carried. 26 27 Mr. Meredith submitted the following list of holidays for the City employees 28 for 1979 which includes New Year's Day 1980: 29 30 April 13 z day Good Friday 31 May 28 Memorial Day 32 July 4 Independence Day It33 September 3 Labor Day 34 November 12 Veteran's Day 35 November 22-23 Thanksgiving Day 36 December 25 Christmas Day 37 January 1, 1980 New Year's Day 38 39 In addition, the City Building will be closed May 8 for the Primary election 40 and November 6 for the General election. 41 42 Mr. Anderson moved to accept these as legal holidays. for City employees, 43 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 44 45 Mr. Anderson moved that those holidays which have been designated for City 46 employees be the holidays for. the Police Department pursuant to their contract 47 and an exception-that Easter Sunday being April 15 is an additional holiday 48 pursuant to said contract, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, 49 the motion was carried. 50 51 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the December, 1978 report from the Building 52 Commissioner, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 53 carried. 54 55 Mr. Meredith announced the City Administration was shocked and disappointed at 56 the news received last evening that Chrysler Corporation, due to economic 57 reasons, would not be building in Richmond. It is a great disappointment III58 to the City; however, 'we have a fine community and the community has been in 59 good 'shape before Chrysler announced its plans and will continue to do so. In 60 their communications with the Mayor Chrysler Corporation did state that the 61 only reason for their change of minds was the current economic conditions and 62 they are extremely pleased with the reception and cooperation they received . 63 from the community of Richmond:'and the Administration. It was far better than 64 they anticipated and the best they have ever received from a community. It is 65 with regret that we received this news. 66 67 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 68 meeting was adjourned. 69 Donald E.
