HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-05-1978 /S 3 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 5, 1978 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session October 5, 1978, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building of said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Webb moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, seconded 7 by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote., the motion was carried. 8 "' 9 Mr. Anderson examined the proof of publication for traction-driven, tow- 10 behind type material spreader capable of being attached to a dump-type truck by 11 means of an adjustable (height and length) towbar, and moved it be accepted 12 and filed, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 13 carried. 14 15 The following bids were received and recorded: 16 17 Ries Equipment Company of Indianapolis 18 3 material spreaders $16,050.00 19 Unit price $5,350.00 20 • 21 Seastrom Inc. of Indianapolis 22 3 material spreaders $13,086.00 23 Unit price $4,362.00 24 25 Mr. Webb moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded by Mr. Anderson. Mr. 26 Meredith stated the bids would be reviewed and a report will be received back 27 from the Transportation Department and will be awarded next week if it is in 28 order. On unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 29 30 Mr. Keith Wenner, Area Service Manager of General Telephone, requested rental 31 of approximately fifty-five (55) spaces from the City in the North 10th Street 32 parking lot fortheir employees. Sgt. Williams, Traffic Division, is to take a 33 check of the lot to determine who this will affect public parking. Mr. Anderson 34 moved to take this under advisement, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice 35 vote, the motion was carried. 36 37 A request was entered by Cox's Supermarket for two (2) curb cuts on South "A" 38 Street off Garwood Road. This request has been reveiwed by the Traffic Division, 39 the Plan Department and the Engineer's Office and have been approved. (Both cuts 40 are to be on South "A" Street, 30 feet wide) . Mr. Webb moved the curb cuts 41 petition for Cox's Supermarket on South "A" Street be approved, seconded by Mr. 42 Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 43 44 Mr. Robert Rees, Commercial Manager of RP&L presented a request from the Street 45 Light Committee for a light to be installed in the alley west of South 3rd Street 46 between "C" and "D" Streets. Mr. Anderson moved to take the request under 47 advisement, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 48 carried. 49 50 . Fire Chief Paul Mullins stated Park Superintendent Don McBride has asked that 51 a fire truck be present tonight at 8:00 p.m. in Glen Miller Park on Roosevelt 52 Hill for the bonfire being held in connection with the Homecoming Parade. Mr. 53 Anderson moved to authorize the City to permit the Fire Chief to use one of the 54 fire trucks for purposes of protection of the bonfire on October 5, 1978, 55 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 56 57 Mr. Fred Lowrey, Administrator for the Wayne County Commissioner's requested free III58 parking on South 4th Street between Main and "A" Streets for jurors with a 59 minimum of twelve (12) spots. Mr. Anderson moved the request be ,'taken under 60 advisement, requesting that the President of the Board meet with the County 61 Commissioners for a thorough discussion of this parking situation, seconded by 62 Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. ;�a Board of Works Cont. October 5, 1978 Page 2 1 Mr. Anderson announced the sale of City owned property at 927 North 12th Street 2 which will be sold by bids. Mr. Meredith set 10:00 a.m. on October 26, 1978 3 for the sale of the property located at 927 North 12th Street. 4 5 The Bureau of Buildings report was submitted. Mr. Webb moved to accept the 6 report as submitted, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the 7 motion was carried. 8 9 The meeting was recessed until 10:30 a.m. 10 11 The Board reconvened at 10:30 a.m. to hear a nuisance complaint against Mr. 12 William Vanderford. The notice of hearing which was scheduled for 10: 30 a.m. 13 October 5, 1978 was read. As is Board procedure, City Attorney; Ed 14 Anderson, conducted the hearing. Mr. Bronston, the complaintant, showed the 15 Board that the nuisance at 439 N.W. "E" Street had been removed. The complaint 16 is now dismissed by the complaintant. 17 18 The nuisance hearing of Mr. Jerry Benjamin, regarding a nuisance at 423 N.W. "E" 19 Street,was read. Mr. Bronston, the complaintant, told the Board that Mr. 20 Benjamin had assured him that all efforts would be made to get the car removed 21 this weekend or at the latest, two weeks. The hearing was continued until 22 October 19, 1978 at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Bronston will convey this to Mr. Benjamin. 23 24 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 25 meeting was adjourned. 26 27 Donald E.
