HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-07-1978 /7S BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 7, 1978 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session September 7, 1978 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the 3 Municipal Building of said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and 4 Mr. Webb present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Webb moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, 7 seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 8 9 Mr. Anderson examined proof of publication for (1) 3/4 ton 4-wheel drive 10 service/tow truck and (1) 1-ton van-type truck and moved it be accepted and 11 filed, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 12 carried. 13 14 The following bids were recieved and recorded: 15 16 Raper Sales (1) 1979 Dodge 3/4 ton pick-up 4-wheel 17 . drive (includes snow plow, but does not 18 include wench) $8,025.00 19 20 (1) 1979 Dodge 1-ton Sportsman Wagon $8,350.00 21 22 Kurdys-Brookbank (1) pick-up with snow plow and wench $8,250.00 23_ (1) Van $7,585.00 24 25 Mr. Webb moved the bids be taken under advisement, seconded by Mr. Anderson and 26 on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 27 • 28 Mr. Ted Dickman, representing the Hi Y Club of Richmond Senior High School, 29 requested permission for the Homecoming Parade to be held Thursday, October 30 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The route will be on North "A" from 15th Street to 31 the High School. Mr. Anderson moved the request for the Hi Y to have a 32 Homecoming Parade on October 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the route as described 33 be granted, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was 34 carried. 35 36 ' Mr. Jerry Haynes stated the Indiana Football Hall of Fame is planning events 37 • for Friday, October 6 which will co-incide'=. with-Homecoming. 38 39 Rev. Alfred Nead, representing Reid and First Presbyterian Churches, requested , _40 no parking be placed on North "A" between 10th and 12th on the north side, 41 both sides of 10th between North "A" and "B" and both sides of llth between 42 North "A" and "B" on Wednesday, September 13. The Whitewater Valley 43 Presbytery is holding a district meeting here with approximately two hundred 44 fifty (250) members expected. The program will begin at 2: 30 p.m. with people 45 expected to arrive about noon. Capt Scott Loper suggested use of the City- 46 owned 10th Street parking lot as the area is heavily used for parking. He 47 suggested closing at least a portion of the lot and allowing only those having 48 stickers furnished by Rev. Nead parking. Mr. Jerry Haynes suggested anyone 49 having a pass could use any of the City lots. 50 51 Mr. Anderson moved that the North 10th Street parking lot (at least 80 spaces) 52 be reserved for the Presbyterian meeting Wednesday, September 13th and that 53 complimentary stickers be honored on all City lots, seconded by Mr. Webb and 54 on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 55 56 Capt. Lop'e'r, reported he has met with Mr. Dick Thomas, Traffic Manager from 11/57 Belden, concerning truck traffic in the area of Belden. Mr. Thomas is 58 requesting his drivers do not use Hunt, Harris or Ratliff Streets. He will, 59 also, notify outside truckers who are using the Belden terminal. Capt. Loper 60 requested the Board permit Traffic ,to "sign" these streets prohibiting truck 61 traffic between N.W. "N" and N.W. 62 63 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the recommendation of Capt. Loper, seconded by 64 Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. "?C Board of Works Cont. September 7, 1978 Page 2 1 Mr. Webb reported the Traffic Division has made a traffic study concerning 2 the curb cut request taken under advisement last week on Salisbury Road by 3 National Road West. The cut has been slightly modified and Capt. Loper does 4 recommend approval. Mr. Webb moved the request be granted, seconded by Mr. 5 Anderson. Capt. Loper asked if a condition could be attached to the request 6 denying it if a cut is granted off of National Road West by the State. Mr. 7 Webb withdrew his motion and Mr. Anderson withdrew his second. Mr. Anderson 8 moved that the curb cut on Salisbury Road be granted if the petitioner 9 withdraws his curb cut request on U.S . 40, seconded by Mr. Webb and on 10 unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 11 12 Mr. Meredith requested the Board approve the sale of cars no longer needed 13 by the City and set Tuesday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. to use the Street. 14 Department facilities to auction these cars. Mr. Webb so moved, seconded 15 by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 16 17 Mr. Anderson moved to accept and file the report from the Bureau of 18 Buildings for August, 1978, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote, 19 the motion was carried. • 20 -- : . 21 Deputy Plan:_Director:Dan_Dooley_reported. the nuisance of Marion Beatty._at..910 22 North "I" Street has been removed. 23 24 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 25 meeting was adjourned. 26 27 Donald E.
