HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-15-1978 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF TEE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JUNE 15, 197S 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session June 15, 1978 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building 3 in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson present. The following 4 business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by 7 Mr. Meredith. Motion carried. 8 9 Mr. Anderson examined proof of publication for thirteen (13) City busses and 10 found it to be in order. Mr. Anderson moved the proof of publication be accepted 11 and filed, seconded by Mr. Meredith. Motion carried. 12 13 The following bid was received and recorded: Wayne Corporation ten (10) 7 14 gasoline powered transettes per Item 1 at a unit price of $19,181.44 for a 15 total' of $191,814.40. Three (3) gasoline powered transette handicapped type 16 coaches per Item 2 at a unit price. of $20,962.57 for a total of $62,887.71. 17 Total bid price for thirteen (13) busses $254,702.11. 18 • 19 Mr. Anderson moved the bid be taken under advisement, seconded by Mr. Meredith. 20 Motion passed. 21 22 Mr. Chuck McCracken, representing the YMCA, requested approval of a Marathon in 23 connection uiith the Rose Festival as has been conducted the last three (3) years. 24 The route will be from southwest of town on Salisbury Road one (1) mile from 25 Salisbury and Abington Pike, across Abington Pike along Beelor Road on Route 27 26 to Old Liberty Pike, to South "E" and 5th, turning left on South 4th across South 27 "A" and finish at the Courthouse. The purpose of this June 24th.event to be held 28 at 6: 30 p.m. is to give people an opportunity to run in races which has become 29 a popular event as a part of the Rose Festival. There will be over a hundred 30 people participating in this race which is six and a half miles. Mr. McCracken 31 requests traffic be controlled for ten (10) minutes at the "G" Street bridge 32 and the intersection of South "A" and 4th Streets. The runners will be at the 33 bridge at seven minutes before 7:00 p.m.-,.and at the intersection at 7:00 p.m. 34 'Mr. Meredith suggested the use of a CB to keep in contact with the Police in case 35 of a change in times. Mr. Anderson moved for approval of the YMCA Marathon 36 for the Rose Festival on June 24th at 6:30 p.m., seconded by Mr. Meredith. Motion 37 passed. 38 39 Director of Community Development Tim Ryder requested a bid date of June 29, 1978 40 at 9:00 a.m. for construction of curbs and sidewalks: on North "D" and North 18th 41 Streets. The project includes reconstruction of the intersection of North 5th and 42 "D" and sidewalks on North 18th between North "E" and Railroad Streets. City 43 Engineer George Webb has approved the specifications and his office prepared 44 the plans. Mr. Ryder stated he has been unable to obtain right-of-way on the east 45 side of the North 5th Street intersection due to legal complications. Mr. Anderson 46 moved to approve the specifications and plans for the construction of curbs and 47 sidewalks on North "D" and North 18th, seconded by Mr. Meredith. Motion passed. 48 49 Mr. Loren Vance requested on behalf of the Rose Festival Committee that North 50 6th, on the east side only, from the Promenade to the service drive to the rear 51 of the 600 Building, be set up as a no parking zone starting. tomorrow and 52 running through the 25th of June for use of members of the Rose Festival Committee 53 to pick up supplies. The Police Department will install no parking signs. Mr. 54 Anderson moved that no parking signs be placed on the east side of North 6th 55 Street between the service drive and the Promenade beside the 600 Building 56 between the dates of June 16 and June 25, seconded by Mr. Meredith. It was 57 noted that this is only in regular parking spaces and not on yellow. Cars 58 will be marked with Rose Festival parking permits. Motion passed. 59 60 Mr. Meredith set a bid date of July 6, 1978 at 9:00 a.m. for street materials 61 for the City. 62 63 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 64 meeting was adjourned: 65 66 Donald E.
