HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-20-1978 i 3 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, APRIL 20, 1978 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in 2 regular session April 20, 1978 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building 3 in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb present. The 4 following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Webb moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as prepared, seconded 7 by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 8 III 9 Mr. Matt Stegall, representing Old Richmond, Inc. , appeared requesting Old Richmond, 10 Inc. , be permitted to hold a Street Fair. He stated there will be vendors in the 11 curb lines with flea markets, arts, and crafts. There will be no activity on 12 South 4th Street to provide passage of motor vehicles and safety for pedestrians. 13 Also included will be musical entertainment and walking tours. Cutter Corner 14 Food Coop will have refreshments for sale. There will be recepticles for trash 15 and there will be a clean-up of the area before and after the Street Fair. 16 17 Mr. Anderson .moved _to approve the request of Old Richmond, Inc. to hold a Street 18 Fair on May 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and to block off one-half of South "D" 19 from the intersection of South 4th to the intersection of the alley between South 20 4th and 5th leaving a corridor for emergency traffic, seconded by Mr. Webb and on 21 unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 22 23 Mr. Webb moved .to..approve.the request from the Street Light. Committee for 24 installing 36 post-top .175 watt mercury vapor street lights from S .W. "F" to Lin 25 Kay Place between Abington Pike and S .W. 1st Street, seconded by Mr. Anderson 26 and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. This request includes 27 S .W. "F", S .W. "H", S .W. "I", S .W. "J", Lin Kay Place and S .W. 1st at a cost 28 of $205.00 per month. 29 30 Mr. Webb moved. to approve the request of Mr. Ronald Coleman, 3503 Glen Hills 31 Drive, for a curb cut at 1800 North "F" to provide access to a new business, 32 seconded by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 33 Plan Director Bob Goodwin stated this area is honed industrial and Mr. Coleman III34 will open a machine shop. 35 36 Richmond Police Detective Charles Brown read his letter of resignation from the 37 Police Department to be effective April 21, 1978. Chief of Police Charles Chris 38 requested this resignation be accepted. 39 40 Mr. Webb moved for acceptance of Det. Brown's resignation, seconded by Mr. 41 Anderson and_ on unanimous voice vote, the motion was carried. 42 43 Chief Charles Chris read a letter from Capt. Kenneth Christmon, Director of 44 Security of Earlham College, requesting the appointment of. Ms Linda Shaffer as 45 Special Police Officer. The Chief recommended this appointment be made effective 46 April 20, 1978, with powers limited to the boundaries of Earlham College. 47 48 Mr. Webb moved to approve the recommendation of Chief Chris, seconded by Mr. 49 Anderson and on unanimous -voice vote, the motion was carried. 50 51 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the 52 meeting was adjourned. 53 54 Donald E.
