PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JANUARY 5, 1978 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session January 5, 1978 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Meredith announced, since this is the first meeting of the year, it is 7 time to elect a President of the Board of Works and a member to the Plan 8 Commission. 9 III 10 Mr. Anderson moved that Mr. Meredith be reelected as President of the Board 11 of Public Works & Safety, seconded by Mr. Webb. 12 13 Mr. Webb moved the nominations be closed, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on 14 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 15 16 On unanimous voice vote Mr. Anderson's motion that Mr. Meredith'ybe reelected 17 President was carried. 18 19 Mr. Anderson moved that Mr. Meredith be reappointed to the Richmond Plan 20 Commission, .seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 21 carried. 22 23 Mr. Meredith announced. that at the last meeting the Board had a report from the 24 Plan Commission and heard objectors to the closing of South 10th Street between 25 Parry and South "L". Since that time, Francis Daniels has requested his 26 petition to close this street be withdrawn; therefore, the petition is • 27 . considered withdrawn and will not be forwarded to Council as would have been the 28 procedure since the Board of Works revised the action of the Plan Commission. . 29 30 Mrs. Laura Jett, 1000 Parry Street, was present and'stated she had petitioned for 31 a closing of this street four (4) years ago. Also present was Mr. Arnold Jett, 32 1207 South 14th Street. Mrs. Jett is the owner of property abutting this street on II33 the east. She stated she wants to petition for the closing now. Mr. Anderson 34 suggested she talk with Mr. Bob Goodwin, City Plan Director, to learn the 35 • necessary steps to be taken for this action. 36 37 Chief of Police Charles Chris read a letter from Officer John Geiger requesting 38 retirement effective January 31, 1978 and a letter from himself recommending 39 the retirement be accepted. Officer Geiger will have completed twenty years, 40 five months, and fifteen days with the Richmond Police Department. 41 42 Mr. Webb moved the request for retirement be accepted, seconded by Mr. 43 Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carred. 44 45 Chief Chris,,'requested bids be received on January 19th at 9:00 a.m. for the 46 purchase of thirteen (13) mid-size police cars. 47 48 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the recommendation of Chief Chriss that 49 Detective Todd Thompson be sent to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, 50 Plainfield, Indiana on January 16 through 27 to attend the "Advanced Drug 51 Enforcement Course". seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the 52 mo:t_ on_-was=Carried:‘, . r .. 53 54 . Chief Chris read a letter from Mr. Charles Rodefeld, Rodefeld Company 55 - commending the Department for their action in a burglary at his company on 56 New Year's Day. Chief Chris stated the cooperation of three (3) citizens 57 aided in the capture and recovery of the property. He publically thanked these 58 _citizens for their assitance. 59 . 60 -Mr'"Webb moved the report of the Bureau of Buildings for the month of 61 December 1977 be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on 62 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
