HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-03-1977 65-- BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, NOVEMBER 3, 1977 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in 2 regular session November 3, 1977 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as presented, 7 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 III 9 Mr. Lawrence Kraus, 120 Richwood Drive, representing The Church of The Holy 10 Family, presented a request from Reverend Robert Minton that a "no exit" sign 11 be placed at the west entrance to the alley running east from S. W. 9th Street 12 to S. W. 8th Street between West Main Street and S. W. "A" Street. The eastern 13 end of this alley was vacated by Circuit Court Order #3801 on April 10, 1954. 14 A gate will be erected at the eastern end of the alley at S. W. 8th Street. A 15 stop sign will be placed on the gate to indicate that it is a barrier. 16 17 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the request of Rev. Minton dated November 3, 1977 18 that a dead end sign be erected by the City at the western entrance to the alley 19 running east from S. W. 9th Street to S. W. 8th Street between Main Street and 20 S. W. "A" Street. upon the erection of a gate by the Church of The Holy Family 21 or Holy Family School at the eastern end of the school lot and said gate be 22 plainly visible and all signs of said gate be reflectorized, seconded by Mr. Webb 23 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. . 24 25 Mr. George Clinton of Clinton & Associates, presented a blue-print of lighting 26 on 4th Street between Main and So. "A" Streets. It is recommended that, in 27 lieu of the thirty-three (33) foot vapor lights RP&L installs, twelve (12) foot 28 sodium vapor lights be installed. This type light will match the existing lights 29 on the County Administration Building so it is more of pedestrian scale and should 30 be placed in the parking median instead of on the sidewalk. Mr. Arnold Daugherty, 31 representing the County Commissioners stated they will pay any additional costs. 32 This change is recommended by the Street Light Committee. 33 III 34 Mr. Anderson moved the Board of Works, having met with the Street Light Committee 35 and the Street Light Committee, having voted and having recommended seven (7) 36 twelve foot sodium vapor lights instead of seven (7) 400 watt mercury vapor 37 lights and said lights are compatible with the lights in the area, accept the 38 recommendation of the Street Light Committee including the County paying any 39 difference in purchase cost of said lights, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous 40 voice vote the motion was carried. A copy of the Street Light Committee's request 41 and a letter from the County that they will pay this difference should be fur- 42 nished the Clerk. 43 44 Mr. Meredith recommended the following holidays be set for the year 1978: 45 46 March 24 - Good Friday (1/2 day in the afternoon) 47 May 29 - Memorial Day 48 July 4 - Independence Day 49 September 4 - Labor Day 50 November 10 - Veterans' Day 51 November 23-24 - Thanksgiving 52 December 25 - Christmas 53 January 1 , 1979 - New Year's Day 54 55 In addition the City Building will be closed May 2 for the Primary election and 56 November 7 for the General election. 57 58 Mr. Webb moved to accept the holiday schedule, seconded by Mr. Anderson and on III59 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 60 61 Mr. Anderson moved to accept and file the report from the Bureau of Buildings 62 for October 1977, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion 63 was carried. 64 65 Mr. Webb moved to accept the recommendation of Chief of Police Charles Chris 66 that Officer Keith Retz be sent to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Plain- 67 field, Indiana for the Photography I Course on November 14-18, 1977, seconded 68 by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 69 70 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed the 71 meeting was adjourned. 72 Donald E.
