HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-20-1977 5-7 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RI.CHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 20, 1977 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, mat in 2 regular session October 20, 1977 at the,hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Meredith presided with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of the...previous meeting, as corrected, 7 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 III9 Mr. Anderson examined the proof of publication by the Department of Community 10 Development for the renovation of South 4th Street and found it to be in order. 11 12 Mr. Webb moved to accept and file proof of publication, seconded by Mr. Anderson 13 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 14 15 The following bids were received and recorded: Brower's Gaar Nurseries $7,218.90, 16 alt. (1) $1,500.00; Oberle & Associates $86,000.00, alt (1) $15,000.00, alt (2) 17 $11;400.00; Cain's Lakes Gravel $62,734.98, alt (1) $5,700.00, alt. (2) $3,420.00, 18 landscaping $13,666.80. 19 20 Mr. Anderson moved these bids be taken under advisement, seconded by Mr. Webb 21 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 22 23 Fire Chief Paul Mullin presented a Certificate of Retirement to Mr. Don Ashen- 24 felter. Mr. Ashenfelter has completed twenty-two (22) years and nine (9) months 25 on the Department. Mr.. Ashenfelter stated he is leaving with a good mind and 26 good heart about his job. The Board members wished him well in his retirement. 27 28 Mr. Webb moved to approve the recommendation of Chief Mullin that a fire hydrant 29 be. installed near the entrance of the Cambridge Square development, the exact 30 location to be determined at the time the Water Works installs mains, seconded 31 by Mr. Anderson and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 32 III 33 Mr. Webb moved to take under advisement the recommendation of Traffic Safety 34 Capt. Scott. Loper to restrict parking in the 1100 block of N. W. 6th Street on 35 the 'west side of the street only to no parking anytime, seconded by Mr. Anderson 36 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. This will provide area 37 residents an opportunity to appear before the Board for their input.. . 38 39 Mr. Webb moved for approval of the recommendation of Capt. Loper that a stop 40 sign be. installed on the southeast corner of S. 14th & "U" Street for northbound 41 traffic, making the intersection a three-way stop, seconded by Mr. Anderson and 42 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 43 44 Mr. Anderson moved' for approval of the recommendation of Capt. Loper that the 45 stop signs. located at S. llth and "L" Streets for east-west bound traffic be 46 removed, seconded by Mr.' Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 47 The Principals of Hibberd and Richardson Schools have been contacted and have no 48 objections to this removal. 49 • 50 Mr. Anderson moved to take under advisement, at the request of Department of 51 Transportation Jerry Haynes, the request of Capt. Loper for placement of a guard 52 rail on Waterfall Road on the south side immediately east of the railroad tracks, 53 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 54 55 Mr. Anderson moved to take under advisement the request of Capt. Loper that a 56 barrier be installed on the railroad overpass in the 900 block of N. W. 5th 57 Street, on the east side of the street to contain pedestrians who cross the over- II/ 58 pass., seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 59 60 There. being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed the 61 meeting was adjourned. _ 62 63 Donald E.
