CONGRATULATING NEW REPERTORY THEATRE
ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR 35TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON
WHEREAS: New Repertory Theatre begins its 35th anniversary season tonight, with this
performance of Nixon’s Nixon by Russell Lees; and
WHEREAS: New Repertory Theatre has served annually around 40,000 community
members through their mission of producing plays and musicals that speak powerfully to
the vital ideas of our time; and
WHEREAS: With the goal of producing theatre art of the highest quality, New Repertory
Theatre has established itself as one of the Boston area’s premiere theatre companies; and
WHEREAS: Since 1984, New Repertory Theatre has produced 75 East Coast, New
England, Boston, or World Premieres, and is a core member in the National New Play
Network (NNPN), an alliance of not-for-profit professional theatres that champions the
development, production, and continued life of new plays for the American theatre; and
WHEREAS: New Repertory Theatre invites audience members to join in on numerous
free or low-cost engagement initiatives, including post-show Talkabouts, a Spotlight
Symposium lecture series, and Page to Stage classes; and
WHEREAS: New Repertory Theatre’s Classic Repertory Company brings New Rep’s
work out of the theatre and into schools, community centers, senior centers, and
performing arts venues across New England;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the City known as the Town of
Watertown extends its sincerest congratulations to New Repertory Theatre on the opening
of their 35th Anniversary Season and honors their outstanding contributions to the Town
of Watertown.
