HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-14-1976 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOBER 14, 1976 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met 2 in regular session October 14, 1976, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Muni- 3 cipal Building in said City. Mr. Reinke presided with Mr. Meredith and Mr. 4 Webb present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Meredith moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded 7 by Mr. Webb, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 9 Mr. Reinke examined the proof of publication for a self propelled vibratory 10 articulated roller and a 3/4 ton 4-wheel drive pick-up truck and found it 11 to be in order. 12 13 - Bids were accepted for the :vibratory roller for the Department of Transpor- 14 tation and the following was recorded: Flack Equipment Co. $10,186; and 15 Deeds Equipment Co ., Inc. $10,287 with an alternate bid of $10,137. 16 • 117 Mr. Meredith moved taking these bids under advisement and referring them 18 to Mr. Jerry Haynes, Director of Transportation, seconded by Mr. Webb and 19 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 20 21 Bids were accepted for the 3/4 ton 4-wheel drive pick-up truck for the 22 Department of Transportation and the following was recorded: Fred First 23 Ford $6,627.82; Raper Sales, Inc . $6,306 .00; Kurdy's Brookbank Chevrolet, 24 Inc. $6,823.19;d:and Bowens Olds GMC, Inc. $6,980 .00. 25 26 Mr. Webb moved these bids be taken under advisement and referred to Mr. Jerry 27 Haynes, Director of Transportation, seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous 28 voice vote the motion was carried. 29 30 Mr. Webb moved to accept the plans of Mr. George Borton of Commons with the 31 recommendation of City Plan Director Bob Goodwin for Forest Park Subdivision, 32 seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried . 33 34 Mrs . Faye Jose, Chairman of the Mayor's Bicycle Committee on bicycle routes 35 presented the revised route that was a result of an actual test 'ride. Riding 36 with many others on this test were Mr. Reinke and Mayor Dickman . This is the 37 east-west- route which starts on the west side of town at Salisbury Road and 38 proceeds eastward to a stopping point at Avon Lane and 34th Street. There 39 are dismount areas across the major highways through the City. 40 41 The Board and Bob Goodwin thanked Mrs . Jose, the Committee and Mr. Bill 42 Ginman, who was in attendance. 43 44 Mr. Meredith moved to approve the bicycle route as recommended by the Mayor's 45 Advisory Committee with the approval of the Park Board as two (2) park areas 46 are included on the bike route, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice 47 vote the motion was carried . 48 - 49 Mr. Meredith reported the estimated cost of signs and paint for the route 50 will be $1 ,000 .00 . 51 52 Mr. Meredith moved to take under advisement the report of Sgt. Ron Williams 53 on parking for the handicapped which recommended that assigned parking spaces 54 in residential areas for those people with handicapped license plates be 55 allowed upon their request, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote 56 the motion was carried. III 57 58 Mr. Meredith moved to approve the recommendation of Police Chief Chris that 59 Officer Patrick Masters be advanced from the rank of Probationary Patrolman 60 to that of Patrolman First Class effective October 9, 1976, seconded by Mr. 61 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 62 63 Mr. Webb moved to approve the request of Chief Chris that Patrolman Gordon 64 Jenkins be sent to the Indiana. Law Enforcement Academy on October 18-29, 1976, 65 for the Advance Drug Training Course #76-112, Reporting Instructions , seconded 66 by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice- vote the motion was carried. 67 68 Mr. Meredith moved to accept the request of Mr. Lawrence Smith, 500 South 5th, 69 for a curb cut on South "E" between South 4th and 5th, seconded by Mr. Webb and Board of Works Minutes . . October 15, 1976 . Page 2 1 on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. This request has the 2 approval of the Traffic, Planning and Engineering Departments . 3 4 Mayor Clifford Dickman announced a permit application for open burning 5 of leaves . This requests open burning from October 15th through-October 6 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p .m. each day with restrictions which are 7 listed. The Health Department drew up the rules with the Fire Chief and 8 Sanitation Department. The Mayor announced this is a trial basis . 9 10 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed 11 the meeting was adjourned. 12 13 Robert L .
