HomeMy Public PortalAboutNauset Schools -- 2021-03-04 Minutes (2) Nauset Regional School Committee ,g March 4 , 2021 +� Virtual meeting live streamed at Brewster Town Hall ,; , Present for the Committee : Judith Schumacher, Chris Easley, Richard Stewart, Josh Stewart, Tom Fitzgibbons , Steven Leibowitz, Griffin Ryder, John O ' Reilly, Ed Brookshire Present for the Administration : Thomas Conrad, Giovanna Venditti, Julie Kobold, Chris Ellsasser Others Present : Members of the Community Call to Order ; Chair Easley called the meeting to order at 6 : 30 p . m. , and read the meeting notice and Zoom information aloud . Agenda Changes : None Citizens Speak: Mark Mathison, NEA President spoke to the Committee regarding obtaining vaccinations for all staff in the Nauset Public Schools . The State has broadcast that all educational staff are now eligible for vaccines, the problem is getting enough of the vaccine . Mr . Mathison indicated the Orleans DPW could vaccinate all staff from Provincetown to Dennis in one day, if they could obtain the vaccine . Mr . Mathison has spent time speaking with our state representatives and expressed his frustration that the Governor is not providing the vaccine to the Cape . Mr . Mathison is requesting that the community put some pressure on the Governor to make the vaccine available . Aaron Cantor spoke and supported what Mr . Mathison, stating that all staff will be wearing red the next day in an effort to send a message to the Governor and State Board of Education to make the vaccines available . Betsy Smith, Community Member, voiced her support of the Nauset High School Building Project, and requested a petition be started regarding obtaining the vaccine for educational staff. Katie Jacobus , Brewster Community Member, thanked the NRSC and the Nauset Building Committee on their efforts to keep the public informed on the details of the Nauset High School Building Project . Vanessa Green, Brewster Community Member, also thanked the Committee for the work on the Nauset High School Project and encouraged all viewers to research the project themselves and not vote based on the negative opinions currently being voiced on media outlets . Priority Business : FY22 Budget — Public Hearin Chair Easley read aloud a statement from the Eastham Select Board supporting the Nauset High School Building Project and from the Eastham Finance Committee supporting the Nauset High School Building Project. Nauset Regional School Committee March 4, 2021 1 P a g e It was moved by Richard Stewart, seconded by Brookshire and voted unanimously via roll call vote to move into the FY22 Budget — Public Hearing. There was no public comment on the FY22 Budget. It was moved by Ed Brookshire, seconded by Tom Fitzgibbons and voted unanimously via roll call vote to adjourn the FY22 Budget — Public Hearing . FY22 Budget Discussion and Vote Superintendent Conrad thanked Giovanna Venditti and the Business Office for their excellent work on the FY22 Region Budgets . Superintendent Conrad indicated that all budgets meet the parameters set forth by the member towns . Giovanna Venditti reviewed the FY22 Proposed Region Only Budget which comes in at - (3 . 10) %, and the FY22 Region Operating Budget which includes all FY22 Budgets in the Region, expenses and income over the Region . Discussion was held on Circuit Breaker Revenue , Legal Expenses , School Choice, Revolving Accounts and Building Use . Ed Brookshire made a motion to pass the FY22 Region Budgets (Capital, Middle School , High School , Region Only and Region Shared) for a total of $25 ,305 ,688 as presented . The motion was seconded by John O ' Reilly and voted unanimously via roll call vote. Select Superintendent Search Committee Representatives (2) Judy Schumacher and Richard Stewart volunteered for the Search Committee . John O ' Reilly made a motion to appoint Judy Schumacher and Richard Stewart to the Superintendent Search Committee, the motion was seconded by Tom Fitzgibbons and voted unanimously via roll call vote. Discussion was held on the number of vaccine doses of the COVID vaccine that have not yet been administered . Discussion was held on the Committee as a group sending out a letter to the Governor regarding vaccines . Chair Easley will reach out to Mark Mathison for input on the best way the Committee can assist all educators in getting a vaccine appointment. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Ed Brookshire, seconded by Josh Stewart and voted unanimously via roll call vote to adjourn at 8 : 21PM.
