HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-22-1976 . , i a • BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY` OF RI':CHMOND, INDIANA, JULY 22, 1976 1 The Board of Public :Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in 2 regular session July 22 , 1976 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal 3 Building in said City. Mr. Reinke presided with Mr. Meredith and Mr. Webb 4 present. The following business was had, to-wit: 5 III6 Mr. Webb moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. 7 "Meredith and on unanimous. voice vote the motion was carried. 8 - 9 Mr. Webb moved to accept the recommendation of Fire Chief. Paul Mullin to appoint 10 W. Alan Ward as a probationary firefighter, effective July 22, 1976, seconded 11 by' Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 12 13 Mr. Meredith moved to accept the recommendations of Fire Chief Mullin to promote 14 Engineer Gene -Murray to the rank of Lieutenant and the re-assignment of Lt. Elmer 15 Wilmot to the rank. of Engineer, both effective July 22, 1976, seconded by Mr. 16 Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 17 18 Mr. _Meredith. moved to approve Chief of Police Charles Chris ' request to send 19 Officers Denzel Williams and Terry Bledsoe to the Police Survival Tactics Course 20 in Plainfield, Indiana, sponsored by the Law Enforecment Training Board at 21 the. Indiana Law Enforcement Academy August 2 through 6, 1976, seconded by Mr. 22 . Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 23 - 24 . Ch.i'ef Chris recommended the.. following to become effective July 22 , 1976: 25. 26 1. Advancement of Lieutenant Dudley Goodwin to the rank of Deputy Chief. .27 2. Advancement -of acting Lieutenant Louis Gibbs to the rank of Captain. 28 - 3. Advancement of Sergeant Richard Shoemaker to the rank of Lieutenant. 29 4. Advancement of Patrolman Ronnie Williams to the rank of Sergeant. 30 5. Advancement of Patrolman Charles Brown to' the rank of Detective. 31III - 32 Mr. Webb moved approval' of these advancements in the Police Department, effective 33 July 22, 1976, seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the motion 34 was carried. 35 36 The following Bids were received for the Department of Community Development 37 -Project No. 2-76-8-12-1 for curbs and sidewalks for the Holsapple Addition 38 ' 39 1. George E. Russell , Maxwell , Ind. $ 98,810.55 40 2. Eastern Ind. Asphalt, Inc. , Winchester, Ind. '. ?01 ,952.66 41 3. - Ben Dee, Inc. , Richmond, Ind. 101 ,574.25 42 4. Cain's Lakes Gravel , Richmond, Ind. 101 ,718.07 • 43 5. A & D Excavating Co. , Richmond, Ind. 102 ,648.49 44 45 Proof of Publication for this project was filed with the City Clerk. 46 47 Mr. Tim Ryder announced all bid documents were properly filed and in order. 48 49 . Mr. Meredith moved to turn these bids over to Redevelopment for study and 50 recommendation , seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 51 carried. 52 , . 53 Mr. Webb moved to approve Change Order #8 for Magaw Construction , Inc. recon- 54 struction of Williamsburg Pike which allows the contractor to close-out the 55 intent of the basic contract and allows the owner time to obtain money required 56 -to construct an improved intersection at Dana Parkway, seconded by Mr. Meredith • 57 . and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 58 59 Mr. Meredith moved to accept the recommendation of Fire Chief Mullin to accept . 60 the. bid of $74,954,00 -of FMC Corp. of Tipton , Indiana for the purchase of a new - 61 pumper as they are the low bidder, seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice 62 vote the motion was carried. 63 64 . Mr. Webb moved to approve a curb cut request from William Rodenberg and Gary 65: Krywk.o for 1323 N. W. 20th Street, which has been cleared through Planning , 66 Traffic and Enginerring Department, seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous 67 voice. vote the motion was carried. Board of works Minutes Cont' d July 22, 1976 Page 2 1 Transportation Director Jerry Haynes informed the Board the street sweepi:ngis 2 going on a trial program of sweeping They will not be sweeping in zoned areas 3 at the posted time and will be doing maintenance work as they sweep. This will 4 fte a temporary trial basis from the first Monday of August until September 2nd, 5 at which time he will report to the Board how the program has worked. There 6 will be no tickets issued during this period. - 7 8 There being no further business on motion duly made , seconded and passed the 9 meeting was adjourned. 10. 11 Robert L.
