HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-05-1976 /573 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MARCH 5, 1976- 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, 2 Indiana, met in special session March 5, 1976, at the hour of 3 9:00 A.M. in the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. Reinke 4 presided with Mr. Meredith and Mr. Webb present. The following 5 business was had, to--tit: 6 7 Mr. Meredith moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, 8 seconded- by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 9 carried. 10 11 A request was presented from Oberle & Associates (contractors) 12 to close the alley between Main Street and South A, 50 feet 13 running east off of 8th Street for construction of skyway. This 14 closing will be for a period of six (6) weeks only. 15 16 Mr. Meredith moved acceptance of this closing effective now, 17 seconded by Mr. Webb and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 18 carried. 19 20 Mr. Bob Goodwin , City Planning, brought to the attention of the 21 Board, through pictures , that the "No Parking" signs on South 22 "Q" Street, in front of Roy Cates Garage are not being. obeyed. 23 Chief Louis Gibbs stated that this had just been brought to his 24 attention and he will see that this is enforced. 25 26 Mr. Goodwin, also, recommended the posting of "No Parking" signs 27 on the west side of South 13th Street, south of "Q". 28 29 Mr. Reinke recommended that the property owners in this area, along 30 with Mr:_, Cates,be advised:that_-this_,`us going .toTbespresented -rat the 31 next-Qoar`.d of Works meeting. III 32 33 Captain Loper stated that the area on "Q" will be re-signed and 34 the "No Parking" enforced. 35 36 Captain Loper presented a recommendation that the 500 block of 37 North 19th Street be converted from its present two-way system to 38 that of one-way northbound. North 19th Street would then be a one- 39 way system from East Main Street, north, to the railroad. 40 41 The residents in the area made this request to the Traffic Division. 42 43 Mr. Meredith moved this 'request be tabled until the next meeting so 44 a study could be made:of 'needed_;.improvements iri alternate route , - 45 seconded: by;-;iijr :Webb an=d _on=unanimous: voice vote the motion was 46 carried. 47 48 Chief Louis Gibbs recommended that Philman Bickel be appointed a 49 Special Police Officer (Dog Warden) , effective March 3, 1976. 50 51 Mr. Meredith moved to accept this appointment, seconded by Mr. Webb 52 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 53 54 Mr. Meredith reported that he has received an Offer to Purchase on 55 the Fire House located at South 9th and "E". Mr. Meredith moved 56 to take this offer under advisement, seconded by Mr. Webb and on 57 unanimous, voice vote the motion was carried. 58 59 Mr. Charles Roberts , Building Commissioner, filed a report from the 60 Bureau of Buildings for the month of February, 1976. 61 62 Mr. Meredith moved acceptance of this report, seconded by Mr. Webb 63 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Board of Works Minutes Cont'd March 5, 1976 Page 2 1 Mr. Paul Ghearing, General Telephone , came before the Board to 2 discuss the request for 5 additional parking spaces on the North 3 10th Street Parking Lot , which had been taken under advisement from 4 a previous meeting. Mr. Ghearing stated that they would not need 5 the space past January 1st, and, if progress should get to the 6 point of not needing spaces for trailers , they will be moved out 7 and parking will go back to the Telephone Company. 8 9 Mr. Meredith moved to rent 5 spaces at $7.00 per month per space 10 in the City-owned lot South of "A" Street on South'i9th Street 11 effective Monday, March 8, 1976, seconded by Mr. Webb and on 12 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 13 14 There being no further business , on motion duly made, seconded 15 and passed, the meeting was adjourned. 16 17 Robert L.
