HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-05-1976 /6 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FEBRUARY 5 , 1976 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, 2 Indiana, met in regular session February 5, 1976 at the hour 3 of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. 4 Reinke presided with Mr. Meredith and Mr. Willis present. The 5 following business was had, to-wit : 6 7 Mr. Meredith moved to approve the minutes of the previous 8 meeting, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote 9 the motion was carried. 10 11 The following letter was read from Robert L. Rees , Commercial 12 Manager of Richmond Power & Light: 13 14. The Street Light Committee of Common Council met on Thurs- 15 day, January 29th, and requested that the following 16 street light projects be submitted to the Board of Works 17 for their approval , after which RP&L should be authorized 18 to proceed with the installation. 19 20 1 . Install 6 250 watt mercury vapor street lights on 21 Campbell., Hillcrest, and Porterfield Avenue. 22 23 2. Install 4 - 250 watt mercury vapor street lights on 24 Abington Pike, Earlham Drive south to City Limits. 25 26 3. Install 1 - 250 watt mercury vapor street light at 27 South 23rd and G Streets. 28 29 4. Install 1 - 250 watt mercury vapor street light in 30 2nd Addition of Ravinia Park where South 31st and 31 32nd intersect. III 32 33 The above was approved by Jack Elstro, Kenneth Paust, and 34 Thomas Austerman. 35 36 Mr. Willis moved to approve request from the committee from 37 Council on installing lights, seconded by Mr. Meredith and on 38 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 39 40 Mrs. Dianne Rosar, Chairman of the Telethon Committee for the 41 March of Dimes , requested permission to collect money for this 42 organization at 18th and East Main in both lanes of traffic as 43 the cars are stopped for the traffic light: Sun°day�: February 44 8, 1976, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Captain Loper previously 45 was aware of this request and asked that this organization do 46 work with the light and do not stop traffic. There will be a 47 police officer there to assist in this endeavor. There is no 48 objection from the Police Department for this project. 49 50 Mr. Meredith moved to accept the request of the March of Dimes 51 Telethon , seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote 52 the motion was carried. 53 54 Mayor Dickman read a letter of resignation from Ralph Willis, 55 City Engineer effective March 1 , 1976. This letter was accepted III 56 with regret from the Mayor and the members of the Board of Works. 57 58 Mr. Loren Vance , a representative of the Richmond Area Rose 59 Festival , presented the proposed parade route for the Rose 60 Festival Parade to be held Sunday, June 27th at 1 :00 p.m. They 61 anticipate over 200 units which will assemble in Glen Miller 62 Park. Parade begins at 22nd and East Main Streets-head west of 63 East Main Street to 16th Street - turn right (north) on 16th 64 Street to North "A" Street. /6 6' Board of Works Minutes February 5,1976 Page 2 1 Turn left (west) on "A" Street to 10th Street - Parade disperses 2 at 10th and "A" Streets. The parade. units will be routed back 3 to the park via North "E" Streets. 4 5 Mr. Meredith moved permission be given subject to approval of 6 State and Park Department, seconded by Mr. Willis and on 7 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 9 Chief Gibbs and Capt. Loper will work with this group and come 10 back to the Board if. they. need anything additonal . 11 12 Mr. Roy Magner and Mr. Al Mangus requested permission for the 13 Shriner`s Parade to be held August 2nd at 2:00 p.m. with assembly 14 at 1 :00 p.m. They would like to use 15th , 14th and 13th from 15 Main to North "A" and from "A" to North "E" to line up. The 16 parade will proceed down North "A" from 15th and disperse at 17 the City Building. 18 19 Captain Loper requested that they keep their units to 100 or less. 20 21 Mr. Willis moved that this request for Shrine Parade be accepted, 22 seconded by Mr. Meredith and on unanimous voice vote the motion 23 was carried. 24 25 Mr. Charles Roberts , Building Commissioner of the Bureau of 26 Buildings presented his report for the month of January, 1976, 27 which was filed with the City Clerk. 28 29 There being no further business , on motion duly made , seconded 30 and passed, the meeting was adjourned. 31 32 Robert L.
