HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-21-1975 /o/ BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, AUGUST 21 , 1975 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, 2 met in regular session August 21 , 1975 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in 3 the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. Burton presided with Mr. Judge 4 and Mr. Willis present. The following business was had to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Willis moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, 7 . seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was 8 carried. 9 10 Mr. Burton moved to grant permission for Detective Captain James Hieger 11 and Detective Sergeant Joseph Nimitz to attend a three day Visual 12 Identification Training Class in Terre Haute, Ind. , September 3, 4 13 and 5, 1975, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the 14 motion was carried. 15 16 Mr. Burton moved to grant permission for Major Ronald W. Chesnut to 17 attend the F.B.I. Retraining Session in Whiting, Ind. , Wednesday, 18 August 27, 1975, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the 19 motion was carried. 20 21 . ', Mr. Burton moved to accept the resignation of Officer Robert Monger, Jr. 22 from the Richmond Police Department effective August 21 , 1975, seconded 23 by Mr. Judge and' on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 24 25 City Attorney, Robert G. Burton, examined proof of, publication for bids 26 to be received for junk cars and found it to be in order. 27 28 Mr. Burton moved to accept and file proof of publication, seconded by 29 Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 30 31 - Bids for removal of junk cars-were received from the following: 32 Recycling Center, $32.25 per car; Glazer Scrap Corp. , $36.23 per car; 33 James Henson, $12.00 per car and Sam Jaffe Co. , $28.50 per car. 34 35 Mr. Burton moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded by Mr. 36 Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 37 381 ,: . Robert Burton, City Attorney, examined proof of publication and found 39 it to be in order for bids to be received for curbs, gutters & sidewalks 40 in the Bealview area. 41 42 Mr. Burton moved to accept and file proof of publication, seconded by 43 Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 44 45 Bids for curbs, gutters & sidewalks for the Bealview area were received 46 from the following: Dailey Construction Co. , $63,337.00; Ed Smarrelli 47 $57,061 .83 and Jul Gerken, Inc. , $47,176.60. 48 49 Mr. Burton moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded by Mr. 50 Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 51 52 Mr. Burton moved to award bid for Community Development Project No. 53 1-75-8-8, asphalt materials to the only bidder, Magaw Construction Co. , 54 seconded by. Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 55 56 Mr. Burton moved to advertise for bids to be taken on September 4, 1975 57 at 9:20 a.m. for construction and/or reconstruction of North "J" Street 58 between North 15th and 19th Streets ' North 19th and 20th Street and 59 the installation of a sanitary sewer in North "J" Street and North 60- 17th Streets between North 20th Street and the East fork of the 61 Whitewater River at North 17th Street, seconded by Mr. Judge and on 62 unaimous voice vote the motion was carried. 63 - 64 1O Board of Works Minutes August 21 , 1975 Page 2 1 Mr. Judge moved to advertise for bids to be taken on September 4, 1975 2 at 9:25 a.m. for construction of North 14th and "H" Streets between 3 North "J" and 15th Streets; North "G" Street between North 13th and 4 15th Streets and the street demolition and landscaping of North "H" 5 Street between North 13th and 14th Street and street demolition and 6 landscaping of North 14th street between North "F" and North "G" 7 Streets, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion 8 was carried. 9 10 Mr. Burton moved to grant permission for Safety Director, Donald 11 Strahan to attend the F.B.I. Retraining Session in Whiting, Ind. , 12 Wednesday, August 27, 1975, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous 13 voice vote the motion was carried. 14 15 City Attorney, Robert G. Burton, examined proof of publication for 16 bids to be received for a Performing Arts Center in Glen Miller Park 17 and found it to be in order. 18 19 Mr. Burton moved to accept and file proof of publication, seconded 20 by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 21 22 Bids were received from the. following: Attlin Construction, Inc. , 23 $58,000.00; Ford Construction, $38,288.00; Kutter Construction, 24 $46,571 .00; Oberle Assoc. , Inc. , $48,569.00; Dick Hill & Sons Elec- 25 tric, $11082.00 and Melling Electric, $8,950.00. 26 27 Mr. Burton moved to take bids under advisement for recommendations and 28 study by the architect, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice 29 vote the motion was carried. 30 31 Mr. Judge moved to award bid for removal of junk cars to Glazer 32 Scrap Co. in the amount of $36.23, seconded by Mr. Willis and on 33 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. - 34 35 There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and 36 passed, the meeting was adjourned. 37 38 39 Robert G.
