HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-08-1975 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MAY 8, 1975 1 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, 2 met in regular session May 8, 1975 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Muni- 3 cipal Building in said City. Mr. Burton presided with Mr. Judge and 4 Mr. Willis present: The following business was had to-wit: 5 6 Mr. Willis moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded 7 by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 8 9 Chief of Police Louis Gibbs presented to the Board the resignation of 10 Officer Mike Tevis from the Richmond Police Department effective May 8, 11 1975. Officer Tevis is leaving the city for other employment. 12 13 Mr. Burton moved to approve the resignation of Officer Mike Tevis from 14 the Richmond Police Department effective May 8, 1975, seconded by Mr. 15 Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 16 17 Chief Gibbs presented the following: 18 19 May 8, 1975 20 21 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY 22 Robert G. Burton, President 23 24 Dear Board Members: 25 26 I request permission to send Officers, Ted Blanford, Ronald 27 Pennington, Ronnie Williams, Edward Bratton and Charles 28 Brown to Anti-Sniper Training Course the week of June 22, 29 1975 at Quantico, Virginia. These five officers are members 30. of a Set Unit (Specialized Equipment Team) with the Police 31 Department. 32 III 33 The course is sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investi- 34 gation and there will be no cost to the Department. 35 36 Sincerely, 37 Is/ Louis E. Gibbs 38 Chief of Police 39 40 Mr. Burton moved to approve the attendance of Officers Ted Blanford, Ronald 41 Pennington, Ronnie Williams, Edward Bratton and Charles Brown to Anti- 42 Sniper Training the week of June 22, 1975, seconded by Mr. Judge and on 43 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 44 45 Street Commissioner Elmer Toschlog requested the Board to set date to receive 46 bids for an air compressor and jack hammer. 47 48 Mr. Burton moved to receive bids for an air compressor and jack hammer for 49 the Street Department May 22, 1975 at 9:00 a.m. with specs to be on file 50 in the Office of the City Clerk, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous 51 voice vote the motion was carried. 52 53 Mr. Mark Whalen appeared before the Board requesting permission to hold 54 the 4th annual American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon on May 31st at 9:00 a.m. 55 with a rain date of June 1 , 1975. 56 57 Mr. Burton moved to approve the American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon on 58 May 31st with June 1 , 1975 as a rain date, seconded by Mr. Judge and on 59 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 60 61 .S10 Board of Works Minutes May 8, 1975 Page 2 1 Richard Freeman, Director. of the Department of Community Development 2 appeared before the Board requesting authorization to sign contract 3 for aerial photography surveying of the City. Funds would come from 4 the Community Development grant. Director Freeman stated he has received 5 three bids on the photography. 6 7 Mr. Willis moved to authorize the Department of C anmunity Development 8 to sign contract for aerial photography and surveying with John Beals 9 and Dickerson at prices set forth in agreement with City and as to 10 ownership rights to photography; seconded by Mr. Burton and on unani- 11 mous voice vote the motion was carried. 12 13 Mr. Burton moved to accept and sign dedication of land from Lewis . 14 H. and Goldie Coyner for 0.10 of an acre- on Williamsburg Pike to be 15 used for expansion of N.W. 5th Street, seconded by Mr. Judge and on 16 unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 17 18 Mr. Willis moved to advertise to receive bids for Williamsburg Pike 19 paving of 4200 lineal feet of four land highway from Interstate 70 - 20 4200 feet south on May 22, 1975 at 1 :30 p.m. , seconded by Mr. Judge 21 and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. 22 23 The Board received the following report: 24 25 May 7, 1975 26 27 Board of Public Works and Safety 28 50 North 5th Street 29 Richmond, Indiana 30 31 Gentlemen: 32 33 The following is a report from the Bureau of Buildings for the month 34 of April 1975. 35 36 Month No. of Dwellings Evaluation Total Permits 37 April 1975 1 $ 25,000.00 128 38 April 1974 3 ' 80,000.00 121 39 March 1975 6 167,000.00 97 40 41 Total Cost 42 April 1975 $239,848.00 43 April 1974 544,784.00 44 March 1975 523,289.00 45 46 Total Permit Fees for April 1975 $263.00 47 Total Permit Fees for April 1974 988.00 48 49 Total number of inspections made by this department in the month of 50 April 1975, 392. 51 Richmond Systematic Housing Survey Inspections totaled 75 this month. 52 Dwellings Condemned 'in April 1975 - 3 53 Outbuildings Condemned in April 1975 - 4 54 Number of Dwellings razed in April 1975 - 5 55 Number of Outbuildings Razed in April 1975 - 5 56 57 Respectfully submitted, 58 /s/ Claude E.
