HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-11-1974 2,37 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JULY 11 , 1974 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session July 11 , 1974, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Burton and Mr. Willis present. The following business was had to- wit: Mr. Willis moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Lewis E. Doren, Chief of Police, presented the following letter: July .10, 1974 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY Jerald J. Judge, President Dear Board Members: I wish to recommend that Officer Rex Rakow be advanced from the rank of Probationary Patrolman to that of Patrol- man First Class on the Richmond Police Department. Officer Rakow has successfully completed one year probation as required. Please make this advancement effective July 16, 1974. Respectfully submitted, /s/ Lewis E. Doren Chief of Police Mr. Judge moved to advance Officer Rex Rakow to Patrolman First Class on the Richmond Police Department effective July 16, 1974, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Judge moved upon recommendation of Fire Chief William Berry to move a water hydrant from the N.W. corner of Sim Hodgins Parkway and Chester Blvd. to 25 feet south of Sunset Drive, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Donald L. Strahan, Public Safety Director, presented the following letter. July 11 , 1974 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY Jerald J. Judge, President Dear Board Members: I request the placement of two street lights in the alley in the rear of 602 & 606 South West A Street. The lights are needed for Public Safety as the alley is adjacent to Longs Super Market which is a twenty-four hour operation and generates a high volume of truck, passenger car and pedestrian traffic. This alley has been used on at least two occasions as the escape route for Armed Robbers leaving the Super Market and providing a dark cover which has enhanced their ability to hide from Police. Strahan Safety Director 20 Board of Works Minutes July 11 , 1974 Page 2 Mr. Judge moved to authorize installation of two street lights on existing poles in the alley in the rear of 602 & 606 Southwest "A" Street, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Willis read a letter from the Wayne County Highway Engineer recomending a 3 ton gross weight load limit sign be posted at the birdge over the Penn Central railroad on North 19th Street. Mr. Willis moved to have the Clerk write a letter to the Street Commissioner requesting a 3 ton gross weight load limit sign be posted at the bridge over the Penn Central Railroad on North 19th Street, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Willis moved to award the bid for the Sanitary Sewer from Holsapple Road to Forest Drive to low bidder, Eastern Indiana Asphalt Paving, Inc. in the amount of $8,353.20, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Burton moved to amend Declaratory Resolution No. 6 to give legal notice of hearing to be held on August 1 , 1974 at 9:10 a.m. and to amend Declaratory Resolution No. 7-1974 to give legal notice of hearing to be held on August 1 , 1974 at 9:15 a.m. , seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Willis moved to grant curb cut request for Sambo's Restaurant Inc. as proposed on the east side of the site for one curb cut as per drawing as presented with the excelleration lane constructed as shaded on plat on the east side only, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Claude E. Goins Building Commissioner Mr. Willis reported plans are being drawn to be presented to the property owners regarding the stone wall at Northwest 11th and Peacock Road. Mr. Burton moved to give the Safety Director the authority to allow the temporary closing of streets and alleys when requested, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Earl Oxendine, 405 South 9th Street, appeared before the Board with the weed complaint at the property at 411 South 9th Street. Claude E. Goins, Building Commissioner, was asked to report back next week regarding the weeds at 411 South 9th Street. Mr. Judge moved to request the Street Department to post 30 mph speed limit and dangerous intersection sign at Northwest llth and Peacock, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
