HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-11-1974 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, APRIL 11 , 1974 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session April 11 , 1974, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Burton and Mr. Willis present. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Willis moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Ms. Darlene Fleenor appeared before the Board requesting approval for March of Dimes Walk-a-thon route to be held April 27, 1974, registration at 8:00 a.m. the walk will start at 9:00 a.m. at the City Building. Mr. Judge moved to approve the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon route as presented for April 27, 1974, starting and ending at the City Building, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Judge moved upon the recommendation of Administrative Assistant Charles Howell , to award contract for Tandrum Truck for the Street Department to Ross. Buick, Inc, with the exceptions determined by the Street Commissioner, in the amount of $12,806.59, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Police Chief Lewis Doren presented the following letter: Lewis E. Doren Chief of Police Police Department Richmond, Indiana Dear Chief Doren: I , Officer Michael John Jennings, wish to submit my resignation as a member of the Richmond, Indiana Police Department, for personal reasons. I wish this resignation to become effective 4-10-74. /s/ Michael Jennings Time: 11 :45 a.m. Date: 4-10-74 Mr. Burton moved to accept the resignation of Michael John Jennings effec- tive April 10, 1974, and withdraw the charges and the hearing that was scheduled today at 9:30 a.m. , seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Traffic Capt. Scott Loper reported the temporary signal located at South 13th and "A" Streets has been replaced with a new permanent signal and is now in operation. ' Mr. Willis moved to close the Municipal Building at noon tomorrow because of Good Friday, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Burton moved to approve request for Curb Cut for McDonalds on South 17th Street south of Main Street with the stipulation they close existing curb cuts including all on Main Street and further that the underground tanks all be removed, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Board of Works minutes April 11 , 1974 Page 2 Fire Chief William Berry presented the following letter to the Board: April 11 , 1974 Board of Public Works and Safety City of Richmond, Indiana Dear Board Members: Many of our departments fire fighters have volunteered their off-duty time to assist the City of Xenio, Ohio, due to the tornado that recently struck their town. Richmond Fire- fighters have been going to Xenia on 12 hours and 24 hours shifts to help man their fire stations and relieve some of the Xenia fire fighters of duty. The following men have already been to Xenia or are planning to go: Robert Crawley Larry Bosell Marshall Kern Robert McLear Elmer Wilmot Fred Goss Richard McLear Marion Schweizer Don Ashenfelter Mike Wilczynski L.V. Berry Chief Chief Berry stated these men should be commended as this shows when a community is in distress everyone helps out.
