HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-07-1974 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MARCH 7 , 1974 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session March 7, 1974, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building in said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Burton and Mr. Willis present. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Burton moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Ms. Rachael Speer, Campaign Chairman for the Heart Fund appeared before the Board requesting permission to collect funds for the Heart Fund at the intersections of 8th and 9th Streets on Main; 6th and 7th Streets at Elder- Beerman and at the entrance and exists to all shopping centers. Traffic Captain Scott Loper said he saw no traffic problem involved with this collection drive. Mr. Judge moved to grant permission for the Heart Fund to hold a collection drive at the intersections stated, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Pete Tuttle appeared before the Board requesting permission for the Onyx Lodge No. 479 to have a parade on June 9, 1974 at 2:00 p.m. starting at the Eagles Lodge South 12th Street and proceeding down North"A" Street to the Service Drive on South 6th Street. He said there will be approximately fifty (50) units in this parade. Mr. Judge moved to grant temporary approval with the condition Mr. Tuttle an the Onyx Lodge No. 479 work with the Police Department and Traffic Captain Scott Loper regarding the Parade details, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unani- mous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Everett Chadd, owner of the Coin Laundry at 1000 South "E" Street appeared before the Board to request a curb cut in front of his business. He stated the present curb cut along with the heavy traffic on South "E" Street makes it difficult for patrons entering the Laundry. Mr. Judge moved to take the request of Mr. Chadd for a curb cut in front of the Coin Laundry on South "E" Street under advisement, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Traffic Captain Scott Loper presented the following to the Board: BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY Jerald J. Judge, President Dear Board Members: The Traffic Division would like to recommend ten one hour parking spaces be installed in the 500 block of the South Service Drive on the North side of the Street. This is the Service Drive immediately West of Elder Beermans. This area is presently signed as a Loading Zone, however, it is never used as such. Due to the off-set curb these stalls may be installed without interference to the flow of traffic. Sincerely, /s/ Lewis E. Strahan requested a patrol car with off-duty officers to escort the Richmond High School Basketball team to the Regionals to be held at New Castle on Saturday March 9, 1974. Mr. Judge moved to grant permis:z`.on for a police car and two off-duty officers to escort the basketball team to the Regionals, seconddd by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Public Safety Director Strahan presented the following to the Board: March 7, 1974 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY Jerald J. JUdge, President Dear Baord Members: I request permission for Director Strahan, Fire Chief Berry, and Drillmaster Bossell to attend the 46th Session of the Fire Conference at Memphis, Tennessee March 26-29, 1974. Strahan Director r Mr. Burton moved to grant permission for Safety Director Strahan, Fire Chief Berry and Drillmaster Bosell to attend the 46th Session of the Fire Conference at Memphis, Tennessee, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Judge read a letter received from Mr. Joseph R. Schleter, State Highway Commission, regarding prohibiting a Right Turn on Red at various intersections. Mr. Judge moved to concer with Mr. Schleter's letter on right turn prohibitions, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
