HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-27-1973 /5 b BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, DECEMBER 27, 1973 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session December 27, 1973, atthe hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Muni- cipal Building of said City. Mr. Judge presided with the following members present: Mr. Burton and Mr. Willis. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Burton moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Director of Transportation Elmer Toschlog appeared before the Board stating Councilman Williams has received complaints of oil spillage from parking lot at 810 South 5th Street onto the property directly west of the parking lot. Director Toschlog checked into the matter. Mr. Judge moved to request representative of Brantner to appear before the Board on January 3, 1974 at 9:15 a.m. regarding the oil spillage, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Judge moved to award contract to Reis Equipment Co. , Inc. , for Elgin Vacuum Sweeper in the amount of $33,285.00 as per recommendation of Administra- tive Assistant Charles Howell , seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Burton moved to award contract for Fire Truck to Ward LaFrance Truck Corp. in the amount of $45,943.00 with the right to delete items as specified under section 33 of our specifications and then add these items within 75 days as per recommendation of Administrative Assistant Charles Howell as attached to minutes, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Burton moved to accept and file proof of publication for15 police cars, seconded by Mr. Willis 'and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. The following bids were received: Vivian Buick, $58,145.42; Fred First Ford, $53,383.55; Raper Plymouth, $54,920.45 and Raper Sales, Inc. , $55,117.75 (Dodge Cornet) . Mr. Judge moved to take bids under advisement, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Park Supt. Don McBride requested the street lighting committee make a study of the street lights in the park in order to up-date the system. t Mr. Judge moved to have the Clerk of the Board write a letter to Mr. Bob Rees of Richmond Power & Light requesting a survey of the street lighting in the Park and if there are any questions to contact Don McBride, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Fire Chief William H. Berry requested promotion of Phillip Michael from the rank of firefighter to engineer effective January 1 , 1974. He was hired on January 29, 1968, and has passed all requirements to fill this position. Mr. Judge moved to promote Phillip Michael from the rank of firefighter to engineer effective January 1 , 1974, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Fire Chief Berry presented the following letter to the Board: Board of Public Works and Safety Municipal Building City of Richmond, Indiana Gentlemen: In order to effectuate the reorganization of the Richmond Fire Department in 1974 the following changes will become effective on January 1 . Berry, Chief Safety Director Donald L. Strahan said the proposed changes would bring the job titles more in line with the job responsibility. Mr. Judge moved to accept the reorganization of the Richmond Fire Department as recommended by Chief Berry effective January 1 , 1974, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Police Chief Lewis E. Doren presented the following letter to the Board; BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY Jerald J. Judge, President Dear Board Members: I request permission for Officer Michael Chambers, Danny McClure k and Theodore Blanford to attend the twenty-seventh Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Indiana University, Bloomington, Inciana. The session will last from January 7 till February 16, 1974. The only cost to the Department will befor transportation. Sincerely, /s/ Lewis E. Doren Chief of .Police Mr. Burton moved to grant permission for Officers Michael Chambers, Danny McClure and Theodore Blanford to attend the twenty-seventh Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Indiana University, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
