CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, AUGUST 16, 1973
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in
regular session August 16, 1973, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal
Building of said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Burton and Mr. Willis present.
The following business was had to-wit:
Mr. Willis moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr.
Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
Mrs. John Roberson, 1650 South 5th Street appeared before the Board asking per-
mission to use a Public Address system fir Church Tent meetings at the corner of
North 17th and "J" Streets.
The request was referred to the Mayor.
1 ) Recommend David White for re-appointment to the Richmond Fire Department.
Mr. White was hired by the City on November 30 1970, and laid-off on
January 1 , 1973. I ask that this re-appointment be effective August 17,
1973.
2) Alfred Bowen was hired by the. City on March 5, 1973, and laid-off on
January 1 , 1973. I recommend that Mr. Bowen be re-appointed to the Rich-
mond Fire Department, effective August 17, 1973.
Chief Berry said David White would replace Fireman Don King who quit the department
and Al Bowen would replace Captain Charles Horney who retired.
Mr. Burton moved to re-appoint David White to the Richmond Fire Department effec-
tive August 17, 1973 and to re-appoint -Alfred Bowen to the Richmond Fire Department
effective August 17, 1973, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the
motion was carried.
Fire Chief Berry requested permission to attend the Indiana Fire Chief's Convention
August 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 1973 to be held at Terre Haute, Indiana.
Mr. Burton moved to grant permission to Fire Chief Berry to attend the Indiana Fire
Chief's Convention August 22nd 23rd and 24th at Terre Haute, Indiana, seconded
by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
Mr. Nora Ward, laid-off Fireman, appeared before the Board requesting permission
to draw out of the fireman's pension fund $259.25 which he had paid into the
fund.
Mr. Judge moved to take Nora Ward's request under advisement, seconded by Mr.
Burton and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
Traffic. Captain Scott Loper will make a door-to-door survey regarding a request to
make South 3rd Street from South "A" to South "D" a one-way street. His study
will be presented at the next Board meeting.
Mr. Judge moved to prepare an Ordinance for Council appropriating $211 ,000.00 from
the Federal Revenue Sharing Trust Fund for Department of Public Safety, Services
Personnel , Police and Fire Salaries, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice
vote the motion was carried.

Mr. Judge stated the request for street lights in Glen Court needs no action
from this Board due to the fact that Street Lighting project is now in this
area.
Mr. Judge moved to authorize installation of a street light on existing wooden
pole on Richerson Court, seconded by Mr. Burton and on unanimous voice vote
the motion was. carried.
There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed,
the meeting was adjourned.
