HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-07-1973 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE u CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JUNE 7, 1973 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session June 7, 1973 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building of said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Willis and Mr. Burton present. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Burton moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Ralph Willis was sworn into the office of City Engineer by the City Clerk effective June 7, 1973. Police Chief Lewis Doren presented the following letter to the Board: June 7; 1973 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY Jerald J. Judge, President Dear Board Members: I request permission to send (5) officers to a Chemical Tests for Intoxication School , to be held at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. Officers John Farmer and Michael . LaFuze will attend the June 11-15, 1973 (second session). Officers Dennis Rice, Marshall Smith and Ron Williams will attend the June 18-22, 1973 (third session) . Costs of this School will be paid for on a 50-50 basis from funds in the Police Department budget, and a grant from the Indiana Office of Traffic Safety. Respectfully, /s/ Lewis E. Doren Chief of Police Mr. Burton moved to grant permission to send five Police Officers to a Chemical Tests for Intoxication School to be held at Indianapolis, Indiana, seconded by Mr. Judge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Gene Morgan of Wagner-Martin Piping Corp. appeared before the Board requesting approval to store two 1 ,000 gallon bulk gas tanks at the new U.S. Post Office site. Fire Marshal Claude Loudy stated the proposal for the storage tanks meets all local and state requirements. These tanks will also have to have State approval . Mr. Willis moved to approve the installation of two 1 ,000 gallon bulk gas storage tanks at the new U.S. Post Office site, seconded by Mr. Jud ge and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Steve Woten of Handcrafts by Handicapped reported to the Board that they are setting up an office at 636 N.W. 2nd Street. Mr. Kirby Robbins reported to the Board he is setting up an office for the National Youth Clubs of America. Captain Scott Loper reported on the problem of the barricades at Test School on South 23rd and South "A" Streets. Several solutions were discussed by the Board. Mr. Judge moved to take the problem of the barricades at Test School under advisement,seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Goins, Commissioner Bureau of Buildings City of Richmond, Indiana Captain.Scott Loper reported on a traffic survey in the alley by the Burger Chef lot and the alley with the manager of Burger Chef. The Traffic Division will increase their patrol of the area in an effort to slow down traffic in the alley. Mr. Judge moved to leave the alley by the Burger Chef as is upon the recommen- dation of Capt. Scott Loper, seconded by Mr. Willis and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
