HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-20-1972 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, JULY 20, 1972 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session July 20, 1972 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building of said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Benner and Miss Wynegar present. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Benner moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Fire Prevention Captain William Griffin reported that Leonard Burton, 124 N.W. 5th Street, had not complied with the Fire Prevention Cide in either filling tanks on his property with inert material or removing them, and, although he has had numerous contacts with Mr. Burton, has had given no indication that he intends to comply. Miss Wynegar said that the Board could answer any questions he might have regarding the Code but that the only recourse the City has is through City Court. Miss Wynegar moved the Board ask Mr. Burton to appear at the next Board meeting to show cuase to the Board why he has not complied with the Fire Prevention Code before instituting suit,,against Mr. Burton, seconded by Mr. Benner and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Everett Miller appeared to inquire into the closing of an alley between 9th and 10th Streets which he had requested the previous week. Mr. Benner reported that he thought the alley could be closed but he still had to check with the Sanitary District. Neither Roy Lee Harris or Mae Hopkins appeared to show cause why they had not complied with the order of condemnation by the Building Commission against their property at 606 and 608 South llth Street. Their letter of notification had not been delivered and the Building Commissioner suggested the Board postpone the hearing until the next week. Police Chief Donald Strahan requested permission to send Officers Todd Thompson, Timothy Tevis and John Lantz to Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, to be held at Indiana University, August 14 to September 23, 1972, all expenses to be paid by the Indiana Criminal Just Planning Agency except transportation. Miss Wynegar moved the Board approve the request, seconded by Mr. Benner and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Chief Strahan recommended the Board promote Detective Sgt. James Hieger to Detective Lt. , effective July 22, 1972. Mr. Benner moved the Board concur in the promotion, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Traffic Captain Scott Loper recommended the following: (See attached letter #1 ) Mr. Benner recommended the Board order an Ordinance prepared for Council consideration to comply with the recommended change, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Benner moved the Board order the Engineer to proceed with a Barrett Law petition for a sanitary sewer on South L Street from 20th to 23rd Street, also to include some houses south of L Street, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Benner moved the Board set a public hearing for a Barrett Law project, sanitary sewer on Straightline Pike, south of .Boston Pike, for August 17, 1972 at the hour of 9:30 a.m. , seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Board of Works Minutes July 20, 1972 Page 2 Mr. Judge moved the Board order the following street lights to be installed: N.W. 1st Street to N.W. 5th Street on Main Street to Richmond Avenue; 1 light on N. 15th Street at the dead end, north of North "J" Street; 2 lights on North B Street, one at the alley between North 13th and 14th Streets, and one at the alley between 15th and 16th Streets; 1 -light on- Hilldell , west of N.W. 18th Street and north of Peacock Road, seconded by Mr. Benner, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
