CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MAY 4, 1972
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular
session May 4, 1972, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building of said City.
Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Benner and Miss Wynegar present. The following business
was had to-wit:
Miss Wynegar moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Mr.
Benner, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried.
Police Chief Donald Strahan requested permission to send Detective Seargent James
Hieger to the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Academy in Washington, D. C. ,
for ten weeks, starting May 15, 1972. Expenses are to be paid with a Federal Grant.
Detective Hieger was selected over and above 300 applicants. Mr. Benner moved the
Board concur in the request, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote
the motiom:was carried.
Chief Strahan reported the Traffic Division is studying a request fronMrs. Leonard
Sheaffer for replacing traffic signs at South 4th and "0" Streets, and the Juvenile
Division is patroling the area to check on speed racing.
Mr. Judge reported that Mayor Klute received a letter from Joseph L. Quinn, Safety
Director of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, stating the'.Indiana State Highway Com-
mission has granted them permission to place banners over the highway near Richmond.
Fire Chief William Berry recommended the Board accept the retirement resignation of
Captain William Farr to become effective May 4, 1972. Captain Farr has been approved
by the Pension Board for retirement. Mr. Benner moved the Board concur in the Chief's
recommendation, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote the motion was
carried.
Chief Berry said the air conditioning in the No. 5 Fire House is still not working
correctly. Mr. Benner said he would send someone to check it.
Mr. Benner presented a request for a curb cut at 1117 North "E" Street; having been
approved by the Traffic Division and City Planning.
Mr. Judge mentioned that the curb cut at Scotties Restaurant on U.S. 27 is almost
complete.
Mr. Benner requested the Board advertise for bids for construction of the North "D"
Street annex to be accepted May 25, 1972 at the hour of 10:00 a.m. Mr. Judge moved
to accept bids as requested, seconded by Miss Wynegar and on unanimous voice vote
the motion was carried.

There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the meeting
was adjourned.
