HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-06-1972 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, APRIL 6, 1972 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session April 6, 1972, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. in the Municipal Building of said City. Mr. Judge presided with Mr. Benner and Miss Wynegar present. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Benner moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. III Fire Chief William Berry recommended the Board promote Engineer Jack Cruse to Captain, effective April 8, 1972. Mr. Benner moved the Board approve the promotion, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Chief Berry recommended the Board promote Fire Fighter Fred Goss to Engineer, effective April 8, 1972. Mr. Benner: moved the Board approve the promotion, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Chief Berry asked whether any work is contemplated on the heating and air conditioning in the No. 1 Fire House. Mr. Benner said that he has not been able to reach the repairman. Police Chief Donald Strahan requested permission to send Officers Robert Monger, Bobby Davidson and Joe Nimitz to the 15th Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, to be held at Indiana University, Bloomington, April 17 to May 27, 1972. All expenses except transportation will be paid by the Criminal Justice Planning Agency. Mr. Benner moved the Board approve the request, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Chief Strahan requested permission to send Officers Denzil Williams,- Michael Tyra, Gerald Hiatt, and Richard Shoemaker to the Third Annual Indiana Vehicle Theft Conference to be held in Indianapolis, April 25 to 27, 1972. All- expenses except transportation will be paid by the Criminal Justice Planning_Agency. Mr. Benner moved the Board approve the request, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Traffic Captain Paul Martin read the following letter: April 3, 1972 Captain Paul Martin Police Department Richmond, Indiana 47374 Dear Captain Martin: We are happy to announce that the dedication of the new downtown Richmond Promenade will be the week of June 26 - July- 1 , 1972. We would appreciate it very much if free parking would be allowed on the streets and in the municipal lots from 5th to 11th Streets between North and South "A" Streets for this dedication week: We hope we can count on your support. Mr. Benner moved the Board allow free and unlimited parking from June 26 through July 1 , 1972 in the Municipal Parking Lots and the streets from 5th to llth Streets, between North and South "A" Streets , seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Captain Martin reported that he has received a third revised quotation from the James H. Drew Corp. for a timed traffic signal to be placed 135 feet south of South "A" Street, to be activated when the fire trucks are leaving the station on emergency runs. The cost is to be $2,746.00. The Board took the decision under advisement. Captain Martin requested that the Board ask -the State Highway Department to restudy the intersection of Garwood Road and East Main Street to determine whether a left-turn arrow should be installed. He said that he had originally requested the arrow but the State Highway had installed the light without it, to see if it is necessary. Captain Martin said that the same study should be conducted at Woodside Drive also. Mr. Benner moved the Board approve the request, seconded by Miss Wynegar, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Weights and Measures Inspector Francis Daniels submitted the following report: April 5, 1972 To Whom It May Concern: I would like to point out at the outset of this report, it is a report of information to the purchasing housewife and this office has no power to enforce anthing along pricelines. However, since Mr. Connley has asked the major chain Cores to roll back meat prices, we thought we would keep you advised on the price per pound of some of the cuts of meat (just for your information) . The Building Commissioner, Ed Goins, submitted the following report: The following is a report from the Bureau of Buildings for the month of March, 1972. Goins, Building of Buildings, Commissioner Miss Wynegar moved the Board order the installation of a street light at South "I" Street between 5th and 6th Streets, on an existing wooden pole, as approved by the Street Lighting Committee of Council , seconded by. Mr. Benner, and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and passed, the meeting was adjourned.
