ORDINANCE NO. 492
AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING CERTAIN MAIN TRAFFICWAYS WITHIN
THE CITY OF BEL AIRE, KANSAS, AND DESIGNATING A TRAFFICWAY
CONNECTION.
WHEREAS, K.S.A. 12 -685 et seq. (the "Act provides that the governing body of any city is
authorized and empowered to designate and establish, by ordinance, as a main trafficway, any existing or
proposed street, boulevard, avenue or part thereof, within such city, the primary function of which is, or
shall be, the movement of through traffic between areas of concentrated activity within the city or between
such areas within the city and traffic facilities outside the city performing the function of a major trafficway;
and such designation by the governing body shall be final and conclusive; and
WHEREAS, the Act provides that whenever in the judgment of the governing body of any city
which has designated and established main trafficways under the provisions of the Act, it is necessary to
provide adequate connections with or between any main trafficways of said city or for the purpose of
relieving traffic congestion at certain points on said main trafficways, said governing body is hereby
authorized and empowered to designate and establish, by ordinance, certain portions of existing streets,
boulevards, avenues or viaducts as trafficway connections or to acquire by purchase or condemnation the
necessary right -of -way for such purposes and designate and establish the same as trafficway connections,
and to connect any street, boulevard, avenue or viaduct with any of the main trafficways and/or connect
any two (2) main trafficways and designate and establish the same as trafficway connections, and such
designation by the governing body shall be final and conclusive; and
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Bel Aire, Kansas (the "City hereby finds and
determines that certain streets within the City should be designated and established as main trafficways, and
a proposed street be designated and established as a trafficway connection, as provided by and under the
authority of the Act.
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THECITY OF BEL
AIRE, KANSAS:
Section 1. Designation. (a) It is hereby authorized, ordered and directed, under the authority of the
Act, that the streets hereinafter set forth located within the limits of the City are hereby designated and
established as main trafficways:
Street Name
Rock Road within City limits
53r Street within City limits

(b) It is hereby authorized, ordered and directed, under the authority of the Act, that the proposed
street hereinafter set forth located within the lirnits of the City is hereby designated and established as a
trafficway connection:
Street Name
Lycee Street, from Rock Road north of 53
Street, running east and south to 53 Street
Section 2. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect and be of force from and after its
passage by the governing body of the City, approval by the Mayor and publication in the official City
newspaper.
