Mae Raetha Coleman Citizen of the Year
January 9, 2023

Council Chambers
1. Call to Order
The Special Meeting of the Crestview City Council for the Citizen of the Year was called
to order at 5:00 p.m. by Mayor JB Whitten. Board members present: Mayor Pro-Tem
Andrew Rencich, Council members: Doug Capps, Cynthia Brown, and Joe Blocker. Also
present: City Manager Tim Bolduc, City Clerk Maryanne Schrader, City Attorney
Jonathan Holloway, and various staff members. Councilmember Ryan Bullard arrived at
5:13 p.m.
2. Ceremony Opening and Pledge of Allegiance
Mayor JB Whitten went over the program and explained the process. He recognized the
Selection Committee: Jarrod Stewart, Dr. Naomi Barnes, Patrick O'Malley, Hannah
Wilburn, and Pearl McKay.
3. Acknowledgement of Previous Recipients
Mayor JB Whitten acknowledged the past recipients in attendance. In 2012/2013, Mae
Raetha Coleman was the recipient. She was not in attendance, but she wanted to pass along
how proud she is of Crestview. He gave a short biography of each of the recipients that
were unable to attend: George Whitehurst, Dr. Naomi Barnes, Malcolm Haynes, Mary Jo
Woodruff, Raymonda Schwartz, and Kadance Fredericksen. Recipient of 2018/2019,
Claudius Dale came forward to accept a coin in appreciation. For 2021, Felton Barnes
came forward to accept his recognition and coin. For 2022, Michael Carroll came forward
accept his recognition and coin.
4. Announcement of the 2023 Citizen of the Year
Mayor JB Whitten announced the Mea Reatha Coleman Citizen of the Year recipient for
2023 - Dana Clah. He went over her accomplishments and services to the City of
Crestview.
Chief McCosker came forward and spoke on Dana's dedication to the community.
The City Council congratulated Ms. Clah for her support and work in the community.
Ed Harris spoke on Dana's achievements and love for the community.
Mayor Whitten expressed his appreciation of her passion for those with addictions and
homeless in the city.
5. 2023 Citizen of the Year Recipient Remarks
Ms. Dana Clah thanked everyone. She stated that she worked with Miss Mae Coleman, so
the award is very meaningful to her. She stated she is grateful for the opportunity to
continue to work with the justice system and looks forward to working with the
community.
6. Unveiling of the Mae Reatha Coleman Citizen of the Year Plaque
Mayor JB Whitten unveiled the plaque containing all ten past recipients in recognition of
their accomplishments.
7. Closing Remarks
Mayor JB Whitten thanked everyone for coming.
8. Adjournment
Mayor JB Whitten adjourned the meeting at 5:31 p.m.

*In 2021, the Citizen of the Year award dates were changed to the calendar year rather than fall -to -fall
