RESOLUTION WAIVING THE 20 DAY WAITING PERIOD IN
CONNECTION WITH ORDINANCE #99-26
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret ("the Borough")
have adopted ordinan-ce #99-26 (the "ORDINANCE") which establishes a program
to reward and encourage volunteerism in the Carteret First Aid Squad; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to fotx~ard the Ordinance to the Middlesex County Clerk
in order to have the Ordin~ance placed on the November Ballot as a public question;
and
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40:49-2(d) provides for a twenty (20) day waiting period
subsequent to adoption of an Ordinance on Second Reading for the Ordinance to
become effective: and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council wish to ensure that the Ordinance is effective
when tbt~arded to the Middlesex County Clerk; and
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40:69-181 permits Governing Body to waive the twenty (20)
day waiting period where the effectiveness of the ordinance is emergent; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council believe said condition exists;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council, with 2/3 of
the members voting in the affirmative, that the twenty (20) day waiting period in
connection with ordinance #99-26 is hereby waived.
Adopted this 12th day of August, 1999
and certified as a true copy of the original
on August 13, 1999.
