Fire Departments,--whose work days do not correspond to office employees' work days. It was decided that Mr. Howell get together with the Police and Fire Chiefs and work out an enforceable policy. Mr. Howell requested a clarification from• the' City Attorney regarding out-of-town peddlers. Municipal:-Bldg. June: 5,1969 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. Mr. Cecere presiding with the following members present: Mr. Howell, City Controller, and Mr. Jacobs, City Engineer. The following business was -had to-wit: • • Mr. Jacobs moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved, seconded by Mr. Howell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Assistant Fire Chief William Berry recommended that Donald Eugene Seal, having passed all physical and mental examinations for the Fire Department, be appointed probationary fireman, - effective- June 8,- 1969. Mr. Jacobs moved the appointment be approved, seconded by'Mr. Howell and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Chief Berry recommended that Stephen Sebert, -having passed all mental and physi"cal -examinations for the Fire. Department, be appointed probationary . fireman, effective June 9, 1969. ' Mr. Howell moved the appointment be approved, seconded by Mr. Jacobs and on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. . . Chief Berry asked the Board' s permission to -send -Harry Hengstler and Jack Shores to Englewood, -California, -to study the new alarm system, at the expense of-the Eagle-Picher Co. Mr. Howell movedbBoard grant permission, seconded by Mr. Jacobs and- on unanimous voice vote the motion was carried. Board members signed the contract for the fire alarm system with the added provision that if the City should decide to cut down on the number-of poles installed the unit price would remain the same. Mr. Howell said he would ask for a letter- from the- company to that effect. Chief Berry presented the following report from the Fire Prevention Bureau: • MAY MONTHLY REPORT . FIRE PREVENTION- BUREAU Total Inspections 442 Total Re-inspections 65 • -• Written Orders 50 - Compliances Known 17 Captain Crawley has been in charge of the door-to-door inspection team in addition- to his regular duties. • The Fire Prevention Bureau would like to comment that the Richmond Casket • Shell has installed a new spray booth from our recommendations and addi- Page 49 tional infractions will be given consideration. The Day Nursery, 300 North 10th Street, is going to install, a complete new fire alarm system from our recommendations. The Fire Prevention Bureau has not yet completed their report on the W. T. Grant fire. The Fire Prevention Bureau has been working closely with other departments on the new housing code. The Bureau would like to comment that the: Westcott Hotel is installing a new wiring system at a cost of $25,000.00 and are installing new exit lights. The Bureau had a new 200 amp system installed at Kay & Jean Apartments located at North llth and "C" Streets. Captain Crawley gave a talk and showed the film "In Case of Fire" to the West Side Mothers Club on May 3, 1969. Talk was on preplanned fire drills and fire safety while caring for a small child. Twenty-two people were in attendance. On May 24, 1969, Captain Crawley gave a demonstration and talk to Baby Sitting Class of 45 girls at Holy Family. The talk and demo was on Cardio- pulminary resuscitation. Recessi-Anne and film "Pulses: of Life" were used. On May 10, 1969, Captain Green and Crawley gave demonstrations and a talk to a Baby Sitting Class of 45 girls at Holy Family. The film "Our Obligation" and the electrical panel, vapor tube and other fire prevention items were used. The monthly report has been prepared and submitted for the interes of those concerned, by the Fire Prevention Bureau. Mr. Jacobs reported that his office is trying to negotiate a contract for the North "A" Street, sewer 'project, with DeBolt, the only bidder, to arrive at a lower price- by haying' the Street Department do a portion of the work. He, said he would have a report by the next meeting. Mr. John Whalen, appeared to ask the Board' s cooperation in the American Legion annual: July.,4th fireworks .program, to be held- in Glen Miller Park. Mr. Cecere told him that the Park Board would have: to -approve the use of Park facilities. He said the City.would available all possible assistance and assured Mr. Whalen he would have the cooperation of the various City Departments. Page 52 said there would be no insurmountable traffic problems. Mr. Cecere wrote a letter to the, Gas Co. telling them that the new pipe should be installed :immediately, beginning at the west end. Mr. Jacobs moved that the Board approve a curb cut request by the Miller Corp. at No: 17th and. Main Streets, seconded by Mr. Howell and on unani- mous voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Jacobs moved the Board approve a change order in the Toschlog Road sanitary: sewer project, deleting four service lines and lowering the cost by approximately $700.00. • Mr. Howell reported that the clean-up of the No. 17th St. dump has been completed, including the installation of a fence 'and gate.- There being no further business on motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned. • /s/ Andrew C.
