HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-21-1967 i/V 1 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, DECEMBER 21, -1967 The Board of Public Works add Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Hall, Thursday, December 21, 1967 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.mq1 (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Keller. The following business was had-*it: Mr. Gehr moved the minutes of the previous meeting be approved without being read aloud, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved the claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Fire Chief Price presented the following which was read aloud: December 20, 1967 Mr. Henry Jameson, President Board of Public Works and Safety City of Richmond, Indiana Dear Sir: I recommend that Bill Jackson be advanced to regular fireman after satisfactorily completing the years probationary period. This advancement effective December 16, 1967. I recommend that: Richard Longer Jr. , 25 years of age. 5309 National Road East be employed as a probationary fireman starting December 17, 1967. Mr. Longer has passed the pre-appointment test and physical examination necessary for employment on the Richmond Fire Department. Sincerely, /s/ Malvern Price, Chief Richmond Fire Department City of Richmond, Indiana , Mr. Keller moved that Bill Jackson be advanced to a regular fireman effective December 16, 1967, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved that Richard Longer, Jr. be employed as a probationary fireman starting December 17, 1967, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Chief Price expressed his thanks to the Board for the fine co-operation extended to him and the department since he has been Chief. Captain Walter Stout expressed his thanks to the Board for the co-operation extended to the Traffic Department and the personnel. The Board unanimously accepted the gift of $4,541.50 from Mrs. Elmira Freeman which is to be used toward the improvement of the Freeman Park. The Clerk presented proof of publication of the Notice To Bidders, printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the English language in the City of Richmond, Indiana, on the dates of December 6-13, 1967. Said notice designated that sealed bids would be received on the date of December 21, 1967 until the hour of 10:00 o'clock a.m. (est) for furnishing labor and material for the construction of Surface Water Drainage 1963-64 Program Section A. Berry Field Area Storm Sewer (as revised December 3, 1967) . The proof of publication was examined and found to be correct and in order. Mr. Keller moved the proof of publication be received and filed, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. December .21, 1967 at the hour of 10:00 o'clock a.m. (est) being the date and time designated to open and read aloud all bids received. The following bids were opened and read aloud by Mr. Cassady of the Henry B. Steeg and Associates. Tonsley Bixler Company, Indianapolis, Ind. $215,000.00 Curry Construction Company, Bloomington, Ind. $199,000.00 Ralph Reed and Son, Anderson, Ind. $232,234.87 DeBolt Construction Company, Richmond, Ind. $179,252.65 Mr. Gehr moved the bid of the DeBolt Construction Company as submitted be accepted, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. R. W. Clinton appeared before the Board and submitted the tabulation and recommendation of the bids received December 14, 1967 for the construction of the new City Building. Mr. Clinton recommended the bid of the Fryman Kuck, Brookville, Ohio on their bid of $1,025,000 plus an alternate of site improvement in the amount of $81,100.00, making a total of $1,106,100.00 for the construction of the City Building. Mr. Gehr moved the Board concur in the recommendation of Mr. Clinton and award the bid to Fryman-Kuck in the total amount of $1,106,100.00. Mr. Keller seconded this motion and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Clinton recommended the bid of the Kain Electric Company, Richmond, Indiana for the electrical work in the sum of $117,808.00. Mr. Gehr moved the Board concur in the recommendation of Mr. Clinton and award the bid to the Kain Electric Company in the amount of $117,808.00, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Clinton recommended the bid of the Griesman and Beamer Company, Indianapolis, ' Indiana for the plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the sum of $192,944.00. Mr. Gehr moved the Board concur in the recommendation of Mr. Clinton and award the bid to Griesman and Beamer in the amount of $192,944.00, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was unanimously carried. if 30 Mr. Clinton recommended the bid of the Haughton Elevator Company, Toledo, Ohio in the sum of $36,654.00. Mr. Gehr moved the Board concur in the recommendation of Mr. Clinton and award the bid to the Haughton Elevator Company in the amount of $36,654.,00, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Arrecap of the cost of construction of the new City Building shows as follows: Building Construction $959,000.p0 Site Improvement 81,100.00 Furniture and Fixtures 66,000.00 $1,106,100.00 Mechanical $192,944.00 Electrical 117,808.00 Elevator 36,654.00 $ 347,406.00 Total $1,453,506.00 Mr. Joseph Hoskins, newly appointed City Controller, was present and related that the new administration concur in the plans and appreciated the work done by the p present administration on getting the new City Building under contract.
