The damage was caused during the repair process where the city allowed the backflow to pack the water line while they were unable to control water flow because none of their valves worked. It took over 6 hours to control the water. They left the water running out of the Brown’s service for 2 days. I have been in contact with the City Risk regarding this issue and they disagree with the assessment above. While it is true that Hypower struck the water line, the complications were due to a faulty system in place during the repair process. In any case, for the sum of $325.91 I did not see the value in prolonging the issue and have agreed to pay the amount of the bill directly to the Browns. We were unaware of a sprinkler repair invoice. My understanding was that any items we broke in the process were repaired immediately by our crew. It is possible there were additional repairs I am unaware of. If it was caused by Hypower, we will reimburse the Browns for the invoice. Mrs. Brown has two claims totaling $522.91 for damages done to her property by Hypower or their subs. Mrs. Brown has incorrectly sent these claims to the City of West Palm Beach Utilities Department which probably explains why they have not been paid. I am sending them to you to make Hypower aware of same before project final close-out. I recall Mrs. Brown calling me the day Hypower broke the water main as she had no water service to her home and she later called and advised she had incurred some costs due to Hypower or their sub. I am pretty sure it was Hypower because she told me her people had spoken to someone named Terry and that she said they were very apologetic and had accepted responsibility, but she was still ticked off because of the inconvenience. That is about all I remember. The contractors hired by Mrs. Brown can probably also provide some insight to. If we conclude that the damage was done by Hypower or their sub(s) it should be paid for before project close-out payments are made to Hypower. Thanks. Thomas G.
