HomeMy Public PortalAbout05.09.2023CAC MinutesCitizen's Advisory Committee Minutes May 9, 2023 6:00 p.m. The meeting of the Citizen's Advisory Committee was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present from left to right: Yvonne Shanklin, Roy Estes, Kristen Sallberg, De'Carlo Garcia, Ray Nelson, and Jennifer Sweeney. 1. Called to Order This meeting was called to order by President Chair De'Carlo Garcia at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance The Pledge was recited by the membership in attendance. 3. Approval of Agenda Mr. Garcia asked to approve the agenda. Ms. Shanklin made a motion to approve the agenda. Ms. Sallberg seconded the motion. 4. Mayor's Minutes Topics 4.1 Arts and Wine Festival -On May 13th in front of the Fox Theater, between 6:00 p.m. and 9 p.m. No entrance fees. 4.2 Carver Hill- On May 20th, Alex Barthe will recite documentation on the Emancipation Proclamation at Carver Hill. Starts at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public. 4.3 Drive -In Movie- On May 20th, at Old Spanish Trail, Top Gun- Maverick will be played on a projector. Free to the public, drive in style, starts at 7:30 p.m. 4.4 May Day Parade- On Saturday, May 27th, the parade will start on McClelland St. and ends at the Carver Hill Museum. 4.5 Memorial Day Service- On May 29th, there will be a Memorial Day service held at 10 a.m. hosted by the Kiwanis Club. 4.6 The Mayor Speaks on the direction he would like to see the CAC go- The Mayor would like the CAC to come up with [as a group] some way that they can promote, develop, or be more involved with the city. Discussion ensued. Action Item 5. Approval of the minutes: 5.1 Mr. Garcia asks if anyone wanted to make a motion to the Minutes from March 14th, Mr. Estes makes a motion to reapprove the March minutes and Ms. Shanklin seconds the motion. 5.2 The committee members acknowledged that there are no minutes from April's meeting due to there not being a quorum. Later in the meeting, Mr. Garcia asks if anyone would like to make a motion to approve April's notes, Ms. Sallberg makes a motion to approve the notes and Ms. Sweeney seconded. Guest Speaker 6. The President of the newly formed not -for-profit group "We Reign Sickle Cell Corporation" based out of Crestview speaks on behalf of their group. They strive to build awareness about sickle cell disease. They promote genetic counseling, genetic testing, and blood drives throughout the community. They have recently partnered with the American Red Cross to do a blood drive on June 15th, at the Crestview Community Center from 10 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For more information regarding their group, you can visit their website at www.wereignscc.com. 7. Mr. Estes has some items to remind the committee and public about. 7.1 On Saturday, May 13th, at Warriors Hall from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. is the Third annual Mommy and Me Portraits for a Cause. Purely a not -for-profit event that will be taking donations of non-perishable food items and diapers etc. Pictures being taken are for mom or including mom. 7.2 On Monday, May 29th, at 10:00 a.m. the Kiwanis will host the Memorial Day Service by the courthouse in front of the Veteran Memorial. They will lay wreaths in honor of the fallen soldiers. Closing Remarks There are no closing remarks.
