HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-21-1967 210 1 11SS BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 21, 1967 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Building, September 21, 1967 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Keller. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Gehr moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed without being read aloud, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved the claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. The. Board approved the plans and specificiations that• were presented by Mr. Taggart, owner of Martha's Vineyard for the erection of a sign. Mr. Gehr presented the following assessment rolls stating that the projects are completed: Improvement Resolution No. 1076-1966, construct 'a Sanitary Sewer in South 15th Street, from South "T" Street to South "U" Street, and in South "U" Street from South 14th Street to South 16th Street. Improvement Resolution No. 1081-1967, construct a concrete alley running north and south between South 8th Street and South 9th Street from South "H" to South "I" Street. Improvement Resolution No. 1082-1967, construct a concrete alley running from North "A" Street between North 13th and North 14th Streets, meeting an east and. west alley a distance of 187 feet. Mr. Gehr moved the adoption of the above improvement Resolutions and further the date of October 19, 1967 at the hour of 10:00 a.m. be the date and time for a public hearing. Mr. Keller seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr submitted the cost of material for rehabilitating the Gilcrest Building for the personnel of the Planning Department and the Building Commissioner. The estimate of cost of•materia,l and installation of adequate telephone installation would be approximately $630.00. Mr. Gehr also stated that it is the desire of the Police Department to build a wire cage to house valuable equipment under lock and key such as tires and tools and also changing two overhead doors which will cost approximate- ly $1,000.00. Mr. Gehr moved the expense of the items in the total amount of $1,630.00' be expended out of the Board of Works budget. This motion was seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Building Commissioner Calvelage presented the following: August 28, 1967 To the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana On July 20, 1967, I entered an Order condemning a certain building or structure on real estate owned by Dr. G. Tanner and Paralee Clarke Brooks at 1137 North 12th Street in the City of Richmond, Indiana, fixing August 20, 1967 as the date by which the building thereon should be wrecked and removed. No action has been taken to comply with the Order and I hereby request that you cause notice to issue to the owner to show cause why the Order of condemnation shouldd not be complied with. Bureau of Buildings City of Richmond, Indiana Mr. Keller moved that the Building Commissioner by registered letter order Mr. Tanner Brooks and Mrs. Parlee Brooks to make an appearance before the Board of Works September 28, 1967 to show cause why the order of the Building Commissioner has not been complied with. Mr. Gehr presented the specificiations that were prepared for an ambulance which is to be used by the Richmond Ambulance Service. Mr. Gehr moved the specifications beapproved and further bids be taken on the 12th day of October, 1967 at the hour of 10:00 o'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Keller seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. The_following -street light installations were approved: ELC#100 - North 16th St. between No. G & J Sts. Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Keller. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Gehr moved the minutes of the previous meeting be approved without being read aloud, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved the claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Frank Berheide presented a petition signed by himself and others in the area of South "F" Street between South 17th and 19th Streets for installations of street lights. This was referred to the Light Plant for study and recommendation. Notice of a suit against the city, signed by Raymond England, who was injured on October 5, 1965 while employed by the Dana Corporation, w presented. The suit set out that Mr. England contacted an uninsulated wire belong,io the Richmond Power and Light and suffered severe burns, nerve damage and other severe and permanent injury. This notice was filed with the City Attorney. Captain Stout extended an invitation to the Board members to attend a demonstra- tion of closed T.V. that is being used by other Police Departments. The showing date is October• 2, 1967 at the hour of 9:00 p.M. in the City Building. Captain Stout stated that Earlham College had contacted him to request consent from the Board to bald a home coming parade on the streets of the City October 20, 1967 starting at 6: 15 p.m. The Board approved the request on recommendation of Captain Stout. Chief Stultz requested permission to send officers Richard Irvine and Charles Chris to a one day seminar on the subject of mob and riot control to be held under the supervision of the F.B.I. at the National Academy at Fort Belvoir, Virginia October 4, 1967. Mr. Gehr moved that permission be granted, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. A letter from the Redevelopment Commission requesting that the. Board of Public Works and Safety proceed as quickly as possible to negotiate for the construction of sidewalks on North "H" Street between North 14th and North 16th Street: according to plans and specifications on file. Mr. Keller moved the Board of Works advertise for bids to do the above work and further the date of October 12, 1967 at the hour of 10:00 a.m. (est) be the date and time to open the bids received. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. All the expense for advertising to be paid by the Redevelop- ment Commission.
