HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-18-1967 185 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, MAY 18, 1967 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular• session in the City Building, May 18th, 1967 at- the hour of 9:00. ,o;'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Keller. The following business was had to-wit: Mr. Jameson moved the minutes of the previous meeting be approved without being read aloud, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. ' - Mr. Jameson moved the claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. III Fire Chief Price requested permission to attend a meeting on the new pension law to be held at Indianapolis Friday, May 19, 1967. Mr. Gehr moved that Chief Price be granted permission to attend this meeting, seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. 0 Mr. Keller moved that henceforth the agenda for the Board of Public Works and Safety be followed until completed, then those people desiring to be heard can come before the Board at 10:00 o'clock A.M. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Jameson reported that the air conditioners in.Chief Stultz and Captain Stout offices were no longer in working condition and recommended that these be replaced. He advised that a price of $248.00 each had been quoted by Hirst Heating and Air Conditioning Company and recommended that the City purchase two air conditioners from this concern. Mr. Gehr moved that two air conditioners be purchased from Hirst Heating and Air Conditioning Company at a cost of $496.00, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved that a Resolution be prepared for Council's consideration to transfer the sum of $500.00 from Board of Public Works and Safety General J-36 (7-73) Land Sanitary Storm Sewer to Board of Public Works and Safety J-35 (7-72-726), Properties, Other Equipment, all within the same classification. Mr. Keller seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Captain Stout presented the following which was read aloud: • May 16, 1967 Board of Public Works and Safety Gentlemen: IIIThe Traffic Division of the Richmond Police Department would like to discuss with the Board of Public Works and Safety at the Thursday May 18, 1967 meeting the following matters: 1. Purchase of "automatic" traffic counters. 2. Parking problem at Ted's Repair Shop, 1112 South 5th Street. 3. Removal of one (1) parking space, first space East of North llth Street on the North side of the 1100 Block East Main Street. Respectfully submitted, - /s/ Capt. Walter Stout Traffic Division 1. Mr. Keller moved that two automatic traffic counters be purchased at a cost of $933.00 for the Traffic Department, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. 2. Mr. Keller is to write a letter to Teds Repair Shop, 1112 South 5th Street, re- garding problem of displaying merchandise on street right of way. 3. Mr. Keller moved that one parking space, first space East of North llth Street on the north side of the 1100 block East Main Street, be eliminated. This motion was seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. Captain Stout recommended that the first parking space west of the alley on the south side of the 700 block on South "A" Street be eliminated. Mr. Keller moved that the Board concur with Captain Stout's recommendation and that the parking dpace in question be eliminated. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. IIIMr. Hal Cope and Mr. John Sweitzer of Earlham College appeared before the Board regarding construction of a. lake and dam at Earlham College. The Board discussed the possibility of city participation in sewer installation at this lake and advised Mr. Cope and Mr. Sweitzer that a decision regarding this would be made within a week. Mr. John Upton, representing the Senior Citizens, appeared before the Board regarding the parking problems of the Senior Citizens Who meet at the First Presby- terian Church at 10th and, North A Streets every Tuesday and Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 P.M. It was thought that parking places might be available at Ringleys Sinclair Station, which is adjacent to the church, and Mr. Stout accompanied by Mr. Upton is to investigate this possibility. Mr. Gehr presented a request submitted by Mr. Everett Mullins to cut the curb at 800 South 10th Street along South G Street. Mr. Jameson moved the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Keller and on voice vote was carried. Chief Stultz presented the following which was read aloud: May 18, 1967 Board of Public Works and Safety Richmond, Indiana Gentlemen: Request permission to have John Thomas Wyatt placed on the Police Department as a probationary officer. Mr. Wyatt has passed all requirements to being a probationary officer on the Police Department.With the Boards' permission will have the records show that Mr. Wyatt started on tie Department as a probationary officer May 15, 1967. Respectfully, /s/ Wiliiam K. Stultz Chief of Police Mr. Keller moved the Board appoint John Thomas Wyatt as probationary officer of the Police Department as of May 15, 1967. Mr. Jameson seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Chief Stultz presented the following which was read aloud: May 18, 1967. Board of Public Works and Safety Richmond, Indiana - Gentlemen: Request permission to have Paul Clayton Alexander and Gordon Larry Jenkins appoint- ed to the Richmond Police Department as a probationary officer. These young men have passed the requirements to become a probationary officer on the Police Department. These two young men want to give their present employers two weeks notice. With the Boards permission will have the records show that they will start on the Police Department Monday, June 5, 1967. Respectfully, /s/ William K. Stultz Chief of Police Mr. Keller moved the Board appoint Paul Clayton Alexander and Gordon Larry Jenkins as probationary officers of the Police Department as of June 5, 1967. Mr. Jameson seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Plant) * Denotes low bids ** Denotes tie bids Mr. Gehr moved the Board accept the low bids on the above and in case of a tie bid, awards will be given on 59-50 basis. Mr. Jameson seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr reported on a storm water problem on Backmeyer Road and moved that the City aid in the construction of a 24" storm sewer south of Backmeyer Road over to the south section line and according to the formula of the Board of Public Works and Safety and will pay 66 2/3% of the difference between 12" and 241 pipe. Mr. Keller seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. There being no further business on motion duly ma seconded and carried the meeting adjourned.
