Each board, commission, or agency of this state or of any political subdivision thereof shall include in the notice of any meeting or hearing, if notice of the meeting or hearing is required, of such board, commission, or agency, conspicuously on such notice, the advice that, if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board, agency, or commission with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. Page 1 of 3 Citizen’s Advisory Committee Minutes August 8, 2023 6:00 p.m. The Citizen’s Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present from left to right: Felton Barnes, Yvonne Shanklin, Kristen Sallberg, Roy Nelson, and Jennifer Sweeney. 1. Called to Order Vice President Kristen Sallberg called this meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance The attendees present recited the Pledge. 3. Approval of the Agenda During the meeting, Ms. Sallberg requested approval of the minutes. Mr. Barnes added an extra note to the minutes, and Mr. Nelson also requested an addendum to be included. After the amendments were made, Ms. Sallberg asked to approve the minutes, and Mr. Nelson made a motion to approve them, with Ms. Shanklin seconding the motion. 4. Approval of July’s Minutes Ms. Sallberg requested approval of the agenda. Following this, Mr. Barnes presented a motion to approve the minutes, which was seconded by Mr. Nelson. 5. Action Item 5.1 Allen Park Community Center- Mr. Barnes had conversations with a few regular park visitors. They have expressed their desire for a replacement of the damaged pool table, air hockey table, a vending machine for snacks and drinks, and an ice maker. Mr. Barnes requests the city to establish if they can meet those needs. Action: Now that these concerns have been brought to the committee's attention, they will need to address them with the mayor and city manager. 5.2 Pickle Ball Court at Allen Park- The city has taken steps to maintain the cleanliness of the courts, but the issue of cracked asphalt remains unaddressed. This poses a potential hazard to the citizens. Action: Ms. Sallberg stated that she would ensure the city is notified about the persisting crack and take necessary measures to address the issue. 6. Mayor’s Minutes Topics- Presented by Councilman Capps 6.1 Swinging on the Porch- There will be a swing band playing at the Bush House on Saturday, August 12th, for those who are interested in enjoying some music. 6.2 Movie Night- On Saturday, August 19th, Lyle, Lyle Crocodile will be showing at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Spanish Trail Amphitheater. 6.3 CRA/ Mainstreet building ribbon cutting- Join us on Wednesday, August 30th at 9:00 a.m. for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new CRA/Mainstreet Association building. Page 2 of 3 6.4 International Overdose Awareness Day Assembly- On Thursday, August 31, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Crestview Community Center, the mayor is hosting a follow-up to the Opioid Summit that was held previously this year. Action Items 7.1 Poster Contest- Mr. Nelson discussed a poster contest for school-aged children to raise awareness about opioid abuse in schools, which was proposed by the CAC and the mayor. The mayor had spoken with Superintendent Chambers about the project, and according to Councilman Capps, Mr. Chambers suggested making it a county-wide event. The CAC would be asked to judge the north-end contest. Action: It is recommended by Mr. Capps to postpone this discussion until they have a conversation with the mayor regarding the next steps. 7.2 Main Street and Hwy 90- A concerned citizen talked to Mr. Barnes about the traffic light at the intersection of Hwy 90 and Main Street. Some drivers are speeding on Main Street to make it through the light. Action: The committee has decided to raise this matter with the mayor so that he can take it up with either the council or Chief McCosker. Closing Remarks There are no closing remarks.
