The Citizen's Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present
from left to right: Felton Barnes, Yvonne Shanklin, Roy Estes, De'Carlo Garcia, Ray Nelson, and
Jennifer Sweeney.
1. Called to Order
President Chair De'Carlo Garcia called this meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
The attendees present recited the Pledge.
3. Approval of June's Minutes
Mr. Garcia asked to approve the minutes. Motion made to approve the minutes by Mr.
Estes and seconded by Ms. Sweeney.
4. Approval of the agenda
Mr. Garcia requested approval of the agenda. Mr. Barnes also requested to add a topic
regarding the Allen Park Pickleball Tennis court. Mr. Garcia added this topic to the
Action items. Afterward, a motion was made by Mr. Estes to approve the amended
agenda, which was seconded by Mr. Nelson.
5. Mayor's Minutes Topics- Presented by Councilman Bullard
5.1 Movie Night- Saturday, July 15, at Old Spanish Trail Park; the movie will be A
Christmas Story to celebrate the theme of Christmas in July. The Police Department
is asking for donations of children's toys that will go to the Blue Santa Toy Drive.
5.2 Battle of the Badges- The Police and Fire Department are having a friendly
competition to get the most toy and school supply donations. You can make
donations to any of the three fire departments and the police department.
6. Action Item
6.1 Crestview Parks: Maps and signs- Mr. Estes distributed a sample layout of the
two-sided park information board. This board will display a comprehensive map of
all the city's parks along with relevant information about each park. After speaking
with the facility maintenance director, he is moving forward on a design for the
signs. He hopes to have more insight into what the board will look like.
Action: The members of the committee will resume their discussion at the next
meeting once they receive additional details about the signage design and layout.
6.2 Poster Project- Based on a discussion with Superintendent Marcus Chambers, Mr.
Garcia suggests that the Committee should develop a fact sheet explaining the
reasons behind having children create posters. The project is expected to begin once
school resumes.
Action: The Committee will resume discussion on this matter once they have come
up with a plan and discussed it with the mayor.
6.3 Allen Park Pickleball Tennis Court- Mr. Felton visited Allen Park to inspect the
pickleball courts within the tennis court. During his observation, he noticed that
maintenance issues need to be addressed in the courts.
Action: Councilman Bullard has taken responsibility to ensure the maintenance of
the pickleball courts has been properly addressed.
