HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-26-1965 2 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY AUGUST 26, 1965 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the-City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Hall in said City, Thursday August 26, 1965 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present Mr. Gehr and Mr. Kemper. The following business was had to-wit: Tho Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting. There being no corrections or additions, Mr. Kemper moved the minutes be approved as read, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was unanimously carried. Mr. Kemper moved the claims be allowed and paid, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mayor Cordell reported that the committee appointed to make plans for a site for a new City Building had met and it ,was decided that this group would make a trip to New Albany, Indiana. This city is reported to have the most efficiently built building for city government operation in this area of the United States. Fire Chief Fredricks reported that the Fire Prevention bureau has been continuing the investigation of the cause of odors in the downtown area. No gasoline leakages were found after investigation of the filling stations. Gas leakage was found by the Gas Company. Faulty plumbing was found in some buildings to be causing odors to enter the buildings. No serious explosive mixtures were found. The Bureau will continue its investigations. The Board signed a new Traffic Signal Maintenance contract with the Indiana State Highway Commission for the year 1966. Captain Stout reported that Mr. Williams has not cut the hedge on the property at Northwest 5th and Pearl Street. The Mayor stated that he will contact Mr. Williams and find out why this hedge hasn't been cut to eliminate the traffic hazard. The Board authorized the City Engineer to advise FIr. Harold Davis to remove the posts from the northwest corner of South 16th and "L" Street. These posts are on an easement strip of ground. The Board authorized a curb cut for 427 N.W. "L" Street as requested by Roy Parks. The Board requested the Street Dept. to place warning markers and lights along the west side of Garwood Road along the area of the Richmond Square construction project. Permanent railings will be installed when the construction is completed. The Board approved estimate No. 2599 for the installation of 5-250 Watt Mercury Vapor Street Lights on wooden poles and remove 5-4000 Lumen Pendant Type. Cost of 5-250 Watt Vapor Lights per month $20.00 Cost of 5-4000 Lumen Lights per month $11.75 Additional cost- per month $ 8.25 This installation to be made on N.U. 13th, from West Main to Peacock Road. The Board approved Estimate No. 3001, install 13-250 Watt Mercury Vapor Lights on aluminum poles, cost per month $74.75. install 91-400 Watt Mercury Vapor Lights on aluminum poles costs per month $591.50. install 2-400 Watt Mercury Vapor Lights on aluminum poles at cost of $15. .0 per month. Total operating cost for the above $681.75. Remove 17-4000 Lumen Ornamental total costs per month $42.50 Remove 23-6000 Lumen Ornamentals costs per month $69.00 Remove:25--4000 Lumen Pendant Type costs per month $106.25 Total costs per month for 65 Lights $217.75. Total costs per month for 106 New Lights $681.75III additional costs per month q 464.00 The above installations are on National Road West from S.W. 1st to S.W. 18th St., S.W.lst St., to S.W. 5th St. between Nest Main and National Road. Mr. Kemper moved the Verified Complaint against Officers Allen D. Baker and Joseph 0. White be set for hearing Sept. 30, 1965 at the hour of 10:00 a.m. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried.
